Rope rescue would’ve been simple in this situation. From helinicholas p wrote: ↑May 16th, 2023, 1:49 pmany case 8 hrs is too much but for future as cranes areincreasing in Okanagan they have to get some persons trained by focussing on this accident's failure.Boosted632 wrote: ↑Oct 12th, 2021, 2:00 pm
I'm betting it had more to do with safety than not knowing what to do you can't just send guys up an unstable structure that just collapsed or you will be rescuing more people

No helmets, no fall harness and the operator was wearing skate shoes.
Everything is "sick bro" until it's not.
Well .. If you look at those issues , they'd be mostly irrelevant . The operator isn't under anything that could fall on him and is in an enclosed cab unless he's operating the crane by remote so there goes the hard hat and steel toe argument IMO ..
And what exactly does a crane operator in the cab on a tower crane hook his harness onto .. A cloud ?
But I'm sure that was fully covered in the WorksafeBC report . I'm sure the cops are looking for criminal negligence like wilfully ignoring written safety procedures on the part of the company or something like that .

Lol if somebody ignores such basic safety measures they're ignoring everything else. Culture of unsafety breeds accidents.
And they were recorded not having any harness nor hard hats while actually moving sections of the crane while dangling in the bucket.

I drove past many times as the large METAL piles were being put in. I also thought, wooden??? Oh well.
I'm not a engineer withhold my thoughts!
It will be interesting if anything comes out of the Police investigation.

If you're going to be unsafe with peoples lives it stands to reason your own family should be first on the line. 3 other people killed outside the family including Mr Zawislak who was minding his own business sitting at his desk in his office across the street.Even Steven wrote: ↑May 16th, 2023, 6:08 pm That's my bet. With management responsible for not having any safety standards. Tragically, manager/owner was the parent of two of the workers killed.

Those are just fines issued by Worksafe

It looks like corner cutting to save cost. Now the RCMP willcheck if the company is certified for crane dismantling and have recent license, same thing with technicians, then comes the other crane which was used to support the beams while dismantling, what was its load bearing capacity etc.MAPearce wrote: ↑May 16th, 2023, 8:11 pmAgreed , but more than just no boots or hard hats in a cab if a crane ..Even Steven wrote: ↑May 16th, 2023, 6:08 pm

Crane struck powerlines today in Kelowna
All accidents are preventable but what happened today strikes me as a very obvious safety hazzard which should never have occurred, which speaks to how haphazard these crane companies are.

Re: Crane collapse downtown
Kelowna has more as many or more cranes as Las Vegas, Phoenix or even New York City.
That's crazy.
Canada's real estate addiction and bubble has resulted in seriously inflated crane usage. Just like in a gold rush mining town, safety standards during such boom cycles can be sidestepped or the systems in place to monitor standards are unable to keep pace.
If an accident of this scale took place in New York, it would be a huge deal.
We've already had another crane accident in Kelowna and the report of the last accident hasn't been released yet. I know it was a powerline hit but it's just luck there wasn't any fatalities. Cranes + high voltage lines + live construction sites is a dice roll.

I don't think it does. You might be sensationalizing a bit.Mazdatruck wrote: ↑May 30th, 2023, 4:58 pm Kelowna has more as many or more cranes as Las Vegas, Phoenix or even New York City.
I wouldn't trust the map for data either. You're saying there are no cranes currently working in Vancouver? LOL
Nothing in Texas? Texas is on fire right now with development, not a single crane though.

Actually I read something on Castanet a couple of weeks ago, though I can't find it now, which indicated that there are currently around twenty tower cranes with permits operating in Kelowna.Even Steven wrote: ↑May 30th, 2023, 6:09 pmI don't think it does. ... and yet it's not showing on this map. Begs the question if all the other info on this map is correct lol.Urban Cowboy wrote: ↑May 30th, 2023, 6:16 pm... which indicated that there are currently around twenty tower cranes with permits operating in Kelowna.
And it was 19:
According to WorkSafeBC, there are 19 tower cranes currently in operation in Kelowna

We're at 20 and we're flipping Kelowna.
The map is part of the industry standard that tracks crane usage it's just an example.
It doesn't show Saskatoon either omg invalid!
