At Easter

Is there a god? What is the meaning of life?

At Easter

Post by Saxon »

At Easter, I think we should remember the reasons we celebrate, Of course this is not the reason for everyone but for me it's a time where I can be thankful for the atonement of sin as Jesus was crucified for our sin, taking it all in his name on our behalf

On the cross it is written he said.

1st....."Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing"
2nd........"Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise"

3rd....Jesus said to his mother: "Woman, this is your son". Then he said to the disciple: "this is your mother"

4th... Jesus cried out with a loud voice: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

5th...."I thirst"

6th...."It is finished", "it is accomplished"

7th.....Jesus, cried out in a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit"

so the moment he died on the cross,
there was no more sin?

we're free and clear?, good to go?

God was appeased?
Was he still mad about the fruit?

i don't quite get that 'atonement of sin as Jesus was crucified for our sin, taking it all in his name on our behalf' stuff...

At the crucifixion Jesus died for our sins yes, its because of that we have the chance to stand infront of the father as clean and forgiven...

I was in the crowd the day that Jesus died
And as He hung upon the cross His mother cried

I saw the crown of thorns He wore
The stripes upon His back
The water and the blood ran out
And then the sky turned black
My mind was filled with anger
My heart was filled with shame
The man brought only healing
Who could bring Him pain
Why does it seem the strong
Always victimize the weak
And suddenly I found myself
Standing to my feet

And I cried
Who nailed Him there
This child of peace and mercy
Who nailed Him there
Come and face me like a man
Who nailed Him there
And the crowd began to mock me
I cried oh my God I just don't understand
Then I turned and saw the hammer
In my hand!

I am just a Roman soldier
An ordinary man
I love my wife and children
I do the best I can
How could I have killed Him
It must be someone else
There's got to be an answer
I just can't blame myself

I nailed Him there
This child of peace and mercy
I nailed Him there
I am the guilty man
I nailed Him there
With my sins and transgressions

I cried oh my God now I understand
When I turned and saw the hammer...
In my hand!

this holiday doesn't make much sense to me. it's about how a telepathic jewish zombie came back from the dead after he died for your sins because a woman ate an apple because a snake told her to, now we eat choclate that comes from a rabbit and buy gifts for people. makes no sense to me..
Despite the cost of living ever notice how popular it remains?

Thank you for posting this Saxon. Easter is indeed a religious holiday, the most important one for Christians to celebrate. Is that video from The Passion of the Christ? I never did see it in the theater and I still cant watch it to this day. This is a time of year when I find myself greatly humbled and very reflective.

Please, if you have nothing positive to say, keep it to yourself. When you mock a holiday that has special meaning to people, it truly speaks of ones character. Being a Christian, I don't celebrate the special religious holidays over in the Mid East, or Asia, but I would never mock them. I would have enough respect for those people's beliefs.

May the true meaning of Easter reside within everyone who celebrates it.

I would also like to share this video along with the lyrics. It is sung by David Phelps who I believe is the best tenor in the world.

The gates and doors were barred
And all the windows fastened down
I spent the night in sleeplessness
And rose at every sound
Half in hopeless sorrow
And half in fear the day
Would find the soldiers breakin' through
To drag us all away

And just before the sunrise
I heard something at the wall
The gate began to rattle
And a voice began to call
I hurried to the window
Looked down into the street
Expecting swords and torches
And the sound of soldiers' feet

But there was no one there but Mary
So I went down to let her in
John stood there beside me
As she told me where she'd been
She said they might have moved Him in the night
And none of us knows where
The stone's been rolled away
And now His body isn't there

We both ran toward the garden
Then John ran on ahead
We found the stone and empty tomb
Just the way that Mary said
But the winding sheet they wrapped Him in
Was just an empty shell
And how or where they'd taken Him
Was more than I could tell

Oh something strange had happened there
Just what I did not know
John believed a miracle
But I just turned to go
Circumstance and speculation
Couldn't lift me very high
'Cause I'd seen them crucify him
Then I saw him die

Back inside the house again
The guilt and anguish came
Everything I'd promised Him
Just added to my shame
When at last it came to choices
I denied I knew His name
And even if He was alive
It wouldn't be the same

But suddenly the air was filled
With a strange and sweet perfume
Light that came from everywhere
Drove the shadows from the room
And Jesus stood before me
With his arms held open wide
And I fell down on my knees
And I just clung to Him and cried

Then He raised me to my feet
And as I looked into His eyes
The love was shining out from Him
Like sunlight from the skies
Guilt in my confusion
Dissappeared in sweet release
And every fear I'd ever had
Just melted into peace

He's alive yes He's alive
Yes He's alive and I'm forgiven
Heaven's gates are open wide
He's alive yes He's alive
Oh He's alive and I'm forgiven
Heaven's gates are open wide
He's alive yes He's alive
Hallelujah He's alive
He's alive and I'm forgiven
Heaven's gates are open wide
He's alive He's alive He's alive
I believe it He's alive
Sweet Jesus

Coffee thats a wonderful song and you're right he has a great voice too, My own favourite tenor is one from years ago by the name of Josef Locke.

Shadowball... there are lots of good sites out there explaining the Easter holiday in full I too would ask that you refrain from mocking as to many Easter has a very deep meaning indeed, myself included in that, If you would seriously like a run down on Easter and why it's so important we can go into that too I dont mind answering any questions you may have.... but I do respectfully ask you show some more respect ...... you hold your own hammer

One word: chocolate.
You cannot reason someone out of a position that they did not use reason to arrive at.
