Sheesh not true at all. Anyhoo. Not boycotting. No reason to do so.
Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?

I am not boycotting Facebook…. I wish I could boycott our current leader.
The poll today is should Meta suspend its ban, I think the more appropriate question is; should Trudeau temporarily suspend the payment scheme so that Facebook can publish news to benefit Canadians.
Meta is not a Canadian company, I don’t expect them to work on behalf of Canadians. However, Trudeau is our Canadian leader and is supposed to put Canadians first. I laughed when I typed that, but still.

Why does the federal government think we should rely on Facebook for news, in particular disaster related news?
Doesn't the federal government have its own BILLION DOLLAR broadcasting arm, broadcasting Canada wide, coast to coast, 49th up to the Arctuc Circle?
Can't Canadians rely on CBC to get the word out?
Or is nobody listening to CBC anymore?

Re: What's the big deal about the Facebook banning Canadian news?
The Canadian government passed a law that basically allows them to throttle news they don't like and tweak news stories they don't like. Basically Canada wants to censor news and create their own versions of misinformation and Facebook and Google don't want to have anything to do with it.
Pretty disingenuous of the Canadian government to blame Facebook and meta for not wanting to participate in their little propaganda Factory.
Facebook and Google will gladly post news to Canada just so long as the Canadian government doesn't censor and tweak it.
Your move Canadian government.

Not getting Canadian news on an American social media platform without the American social media platform sharing the revenue to the Canadian media companies is akin to the genocide of some 6 million Jews? Really?

I'm okay with the government's action against tech giants. To me this is a copyright issue, and established media outlets have a right to be compensated for their work. Meta's choice to ban Canadian news is within their rights as well, but it does come across as a form of bullying. Well screw them, who goes to FB for news anyways?

Taking action ? More like standing on the playground crying . Go back and read what Google / Alphabet had to say about the “ action “

I shared news stories with friends, instead of using Facebook, it was suggested to use email, how is that not a copyright issue as you suggest it is.fluffy wrote: ↑Aug 22nd, 2023, 5:46 am I'm okay with the government's action against tech giants. If anyone can get an article for free, how is linking the article on Facebook to your friends on Facebook a copyright/compensation issue?
Some one comes to me and says “ you have to pay me a fee anytime someone posts a smiley face or you can’t use our smiley faces. We don’t know exactly how much that will actually be, but you have to pay it anyway. I say no thanks. Who is the bully? “ lol

What comes across as a form of bullying is the governments attempt to censor what you read and where you read it. You're okay with this dictation?fluffy wrote: ↑Aug 22nd, 2023, 5:46 am I'm okay with the government's action against tech giants. Curious do you think everyone who copies and pastes should be censored? Where does one draw the line?
I copied and pasted this image. Should it be censored, deleted by castanet? Should I be blocked?

The liberals saw the ever growing dissent against their government with every news article posted . Every single article the liberals and jt were deservedly slammed by Canadians . Panic set in and here we are . The mumbling and fumbling of the liberal party exposed on a daily basis .

Just because a site posts their own content "for free" doesn't mean they're not making money off of it. Advertising revenue is considerable in the form of banner ads, and user tracking information can be sold. The tech giants are not being told they can't post somebody else's content, just that they have to pay for it when they're reposting a product somebody else has paid to produce.CountryAtHeart wrote: ↑Aug 22nd, 2023, 7:36 am I shared news stories with friends, instead of using Facebook, it was suggested to use email, how is that not a copyright issue as you suggest it is.

Business is business, and quite obviously the tech giants just don't want to pay, regardless of what they are saying in public releases.

I think the basis for the C18 bill is exactly what you said, GeorgeGeorge Orwell 1984 wrote: ↑Aug 22nd, 2023, 8:14 am The liberals saw the ever growing dissent against their government with every news article posted . As I have said before, my observations of news stories not flattering to the Liberals have become a lightening rod for the extreme dissatisfaction with this awful govt and its clown leader.
If I noticed the growing anger in the comments section, I’m pretty sure some paid party hack noticed too and dutifully pointed this out to Trudeau. Hence C-18
I’ve also noticed the news articles have gone from soft support to mocking and accusatory. Even CBC radio coughed up a truthful statement this morning saying Canadians blame federal govt for high inflation.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.
