So tell us how you have done this. Cause up to know the most vocal on this issue have never once contributed to their virtue signaling on this issue. Have you done anything? Seriously.

Who really cares. We all know what is at the center of this entire man-made climate change myth. It's hatred of poor people. That's why all cheap sources of energy must be done away with, all in the name of an unproven hypothesis. Next on the agenda - turning everyone into bug-eating anti-meat lunatics. It's already happening.

Re: Alberta
I drive a fraction of the amount I did a few years ago, I'd guess about 30% now than in the past. Unnecessary trips to the coast, even from here in Penticton to Kelowna are gone. Haven't been to Vancouver in a couple of years even though I love spending time there. The "Costco Runs" are down to once every two or three months instead of every couple of weeks. I deliberately sought out electric heat when I changed homes last year, and looked for a new home within walking distance of a lot of frequent needs. I'll buy local produce whenever possible, and shy away from over-packaged products. Now before you write these small efforts off as inconsequential, consider the cumulative impact of everybody doing a little bit to help. It's up to us as individuals to do our part, even if it seems ineffectual. Seriously, do you want to be a little part of the solution, or remain a little part of the problem ?
All it needs is a willingness to look to see that the way we have been doing things is putting our collection futures at greater and greater risk, and a willingness to seriously consider the question of whether or not short term profits are worth the trade-off in terms of contributing to environmental decay.
Putting one's individual prosperity ahead of society's overall health is not uncommon, but on close analysis it is pretty selfish. Call it "virtue signalling" if you will, but in my opinion that, along with the lion's share of name calling and insult that passes for "discussion" here, is just a ploy to side-step personal responsibility. To them, it's "me" first, "we" later.

Danielle Smith’s government is under investigation for its secrecy. Here’s what you need to know
"Imagine if a senior operative working behind the scenes of Premier Danielle Smith’s government scheduled a private meeting with a bunch of oil industry lobbyists to chat about Alberta’s policies.
One of the lobbyists responds to the invitation by sending over an agenda with a range of topics and proposals including the creation of new subsidies for the oilpatch, crafting a strategy to fight federal government rules aimed at cracking down on pollution and introducing obstacles to make it difficult for renewable energy projects to launch.
The lobbyist also proposes they discuss a bailout plan for a company that is near bankruptcy, but facing a multimillion-dollar bill to clean up a bunch of contaminated sites where it used to operate.
This scenario is not all that far-fetched in a province that has access to the world’s third-largest reserves of oil, following Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.
But what happens when a government that is supposedly operating in a free democracy breaks the law to conceal its dealings with lobbyists?
Sadly, I believe this is what happened earlier this year when the Alberta government began to systematically refuse to release records of its meetings with the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers and other oil and gas lobbyists. Although we know officials from at least four ministries have been significantly influenced through regular meetings with industry lobbyists, the departments collectively refused to accept more than 20 separate requests I made through freedom of information legislation since the beginning of 2023 to get the details."

Yup. The NDP losers still can't believe they blew the last election, and now their union-funded scumbags are trying every hit piece possible. Re: Alberta
Are out of control electricity prices part of Danielle Smith's 'Alberta advantage'?
https://thetyee.ca/Analysis/2023/09/28/ ... l-Service/What’s Behind the Surge in Alberta’s Electricity Prices
This summer, Albertans faced a substantial increase in their electricity bills as prices surged. My own electricity bill more than doubled to around $115 compared to the usual $30 to $50 range for a single person in a condominium.

In 2021, electricity prices in Alberta ranged from seven to 10 cents per kilowatt hour. In 2022, prices increased to between 10 and 17 cents per kWh. In response, the Alberta government introduced a $500 electricity bill rebate that was distributed in instalments from July 2022 to April 2023.
However, residential electricity prices continued to soar, reaching to around 29 and 33 cents per kWh in early 2023, and consistently exceeding 25 cents per kWh from July onward. Once the rebate expired in April 2023, consumers were left to handle these high costs on their own.
At the root of the issue is Alberta’s deregulated electricity market, which has resulted in market power being concentrated in the hands of a few power companies.

Sounds more like you made changes to accommodate a new time of your life, most do. These changes have nothing to do with supporting ones belief in climate change. My mom made all the same moves recently. And a need to claim being the believer in climate change contributes absolutely zero to the quest. That's the problem with the liberalist of today. Its a claim that they need to shout about, not be an example.fluffy wrote: ↑Oct 6th, 2023, 5:33 am Danielle Smith’s government is under investigation for its secrecy. Here’s what you need to know

If all liberalist did an actual contributing amount of honoring their own claim to virtue, then a very reasonable amount of effect should be observed. And that certainly hasn't been recognized or collected as proven data.
So the question is, those claiming to be part of the solution, but only spending their precious time making virtue claims of such, and challenging everyone else without knowing their amount of contribution, what are they actually in this for?

It is what I said it is. The opportunities were there so I took advantage of them. My big complaint is with people who feel that "business as usual" is still a responsible option when they have options to reduce their carbon footprint. Now if it helps you massage your conscience over doing nothing by criticizing my choices, go right ahead, just don't expect me to take you seriously.liisgo wrote: ↑Oct 7th, 2023, 7:22 amSounds more like you made changes to accommodate a new time of your life, most do.
