Looks like complaints concerning the trash from homeless camps are being heard by MOT

Those Disgusting messes are classified as hazardous for peeps to clean up. What about the wildlife being harmed?

We moved here a year ago and I honestly wish we had not rushed in so fast. We need to vote city council OUT and replace them with citizens who have the courage to offend those who constantly play the victim. This program they have of being so nice and accommodating to the helpless drug addicts seems to be feeding the monster. It's done nothing but enable. Maybe good old fashioned three strikes and you out, ie hard work camp up north to clean you up.

I’ve been keeping an eye open for trash or litter in 3 Japanese cities and routes betwixt them. Other than the odd cig butt dropped in the dark hours by a sleepless, irresponsible hooligan, nothing. Clean, pristine.

Where have we gone so wrong that burnt out vehicles and garbage litter our forests, and our streets look like the Huns sacked the town?

The garbage isn't the only thing that makes Vernon look bad. My stepsister who uninvited me to my dad's celebration of life, and her brother Patrick was a prolific car thief. The Okanagan is chock full of people like her

Besides the environmental damages by leeched toxins. The outright display of
what I assume as stolen property not nipped by authorities is, quite frankly, sad.

I do understand some have a difficult time, that should not mean a free reign
to plunder and run amuck !

I disagree with you BigB. On many visits to Vernon and multiple times passing thru to and fro, I perceived it to be as pleasant as Kelowna once was. In the past 5 years I see a definite decline in appearance and know exactly where to place the blame.

I drove back and forth through Vernon all last Summer for work. What I immediately noticed on 97 through town was the mix of newer and older buildings with nearly all of the newer ones being the same type of business..............BANKS.

Set up a dirty, disgusting, dangerous camp with an RV in the bush, in a field, by a creek, in a rest area on the trans canada, its all good and no enforcement or penalty for you, but dare park your RV on your parents property and look out, tuff bylaw and police are there handing you tickets like mad.

Excellent comment... with all that goes on in our city, this is how our by-law folks chose to spend their time and our money. Please bear this in mind come our next civic elections so we can get the right folks on council who actually listen to citizens (tax payors) and make decisions that make sense to all. If this enforcement is not the best example of out-of-control civic employees and bad policies, please provide one. We deserve much better for our 7.85% ... do we not?

Absolutely head-banging. Imagine authorities showing up and dismantling a homeless camp and telling the residents of the camp to "move on". To where? They'll just move to another homeless camp. It's just common sense.

Without giving them someplace to go to, they'll just form another camp. Doesn't it say somewhere in the Bible that "I'm my brother's keeper"? Or was it "I'm NOT my brother's keeper"? It's a head-scratcher.

Recently I entered Vernon from the Armstrong side and was dismayed to see that the highway into town has now become an open dump site.

Do they have this program in Vernon?

The Adopt a Highway program offers organizations and volunteer groups the opportunity to contribute to their community and province. Groups "adopt" a section of provincial highway to carry out or sponsor activities such as landscape beautification, litter pickup and identifying and reporting invasive plant species.
