Mine are also somewhat soggy and tasteless but minced and mixed into dishes like Chinese special fried rice look great anyways. I've never bought frozen bags of carrots so I can't compare store to home grown frozen. I know one thing, store canned peas taste horrible!Catsumi wrote: ↑Jan 15th, 2024, 6:29 pm Interesting (to me) that freezing sliced carrots after blanching turns out a soggy, tasteless mess….YET, when I put the carrots through the food processor, grated, non-blanched and then frozen, the end product is like freshly grated carrots that I then add to coleslaw or to soups. I drain the frozen mass on paper towel prior to adding to coleslaws, btw
What the hell, Batman?? What is going wrong?

We have Strawberries, Raspberries, Peaches, Bananas, Cherries and Blueberries in our freezer.
I'm old enough to remember when Plastic bags were the solution to the destruction of trees!

My quail are coming up to my front door in small groups and taking turns flying into the door in the hopes I'll feed them! I must say that takes some planning! ... Sometimes I wonder if I'm feeding quail or feeding hawks! ![:haha: [icon_lol2.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_lol2.gif)
Well the snow finished any signs of life in my garden. With this heavy snow I'm glad I pruned the hedges last October.

Nothing wrong with feeding hawks, or Bobcat.
Regardless of who "wins" an election, they always are up against a Silent Elite. Do you believe the extreme poor who voted for Trump ever thought their non-profit support would be slashed right out from under them?

Can I get any advise on winter sowing, at this time of year - in containers?

Well, to me, it's much too early. February can be brutal.
ETA: Yesterday, Feb. 2nd, I was outside doing actual light clean up in areas where leaves gathered but I don't need them to turn to dirt there, so now they are in the compost bin. I am aghast at how many bulbs are coming up- though. Much. Too. Early.

Feb 21 - I have snowdrops up, winter aconite starting to bloom, and I can see the tops of some of my early tulips peeking through!
I also saw on FB someone complaining about West Coast seeds, saying they've started charging more for the seeds, but giving you less. Does anyone know anything about that?

Shrinkflation I'd guess.
My Snowdrops are in full bloom in warmer microcosm areas too. Lots more bulbs coming up. Garlic is up.

The better half is away so I get to do garden clean up my way and to my standards, in a section of it anyway.
Didn't realize snipping, pulling, raking, pruning, chain sawing, loading trailer, wheelbarrowing mulch and raking it out use different muscles from Skiing
Bod hurts, even after a hot tub and beer. ( Whaaa)
Some kind of exceptionally thorny plant out front here. If Ukraine ever planted 1000 kms of it on their border, the russian troops wouldn't have been able to pass. Gawd awful stuff, but just pruned it back and didn't remove it.
Back at it tomorrow as skiing sucks right now.

Has anyone started creeping thyme from seed?

I have not. I did put a creeping xeriscape spreader out front and now am contemplating removing the entire upper layer of soil to get rid of it.

The two are not the same. The one creeping plant I have invades other plants and I am forever saving them. Creeping Tyme used in a path would not be the same.
