Rent communists!
Get ready landlords. Me ester Trudeau is making a new law that will give renters an prospective renters the ability to snoop on you and your unit rent history. Butt out of our business!

Couldn’t agree more. What someone has made for income in the past is nobody’s business. How about a fund to help with delinquent tenantsGn28 wrote: ↑Mar 27th, 2024, 5:38 pm Get ready landlords. My plan is to respond at the ballot box next year.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

Libs/NDP new budget: "Renters' Bill of Rights"
Just announced for the upcoming federal budget ...
Just couldn't believe how many fallacies they were able to cram into a single sentence. First off, tenancies are under provincial jurisdiction, nothing to do with Ottawa. Secondly, who is going to keep the "pricing history" for each individual property (presumably for negotiation purposes), and how? And thirdly, even if such a history was made available to renters, what makes anyone think that landlords would be willing to engage in such negotiations?
What a bunch of BS. Sounds more like Libs/NDPs are in a panic mode to garner more votes from gullible before the election.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/govern ... -1.7157206Ottawa will work with provinces and territories to develop a "renters' bill of rights" that would introduce a national standard lease agreement and implement requirements for landlords to disclose an apartment's pricing history to allow tenants to negotiate their rent.

So far it sounds pretty great. I really like the idea of renters, who are paying someone else's mortgage, being able to build credit.

Re: Rent communists!
We all know the one person here on Castanet who will be cheering for this.
As for the topic, nothing there to protect the landlords, but then the Trudeau government wants to be the landlord.
What could go wrong?

This hideous govt is at war with the law-abiding, tax paying, hard working citizens of this country
Almost each and every day brings on another attack, in one form or the other.
Trudeau&Co intend to inflict the maximum damage on their way out the door

Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

They're going to slam the door so hard part of the roof will fall in. And gawd only knows, with Sunny Ways no longer shining down on us, we'll need that roof fixed.
Just my thoughts, but things are looking pretty grim for our country.

Re: Rent communists!
People that actually know about rentals, being those who finance and build them, have already said they're unlikely to build if this is passed.
Soooooo, expect more of a supply crunch in housing as potential developments are shelved until sanity prevails.
Just remember, these developers are long term thinkers, and can afford to sit on their hands as long as it takes.
Trudeau is an idiot. Instead of offering up solutions to get housing built, he attacks the builders. WTG, moron.

A fund to help with bad Prime Ministers.
I know that could encompasses just about any Prime Minister, but we need the ability to evict every liberal and ndp government if and when they squat in Canada.

Re: Rent communists!
A "rent history" should run in conjunction with a history of improvements made to the property. This would give the public a basis to assess whether or not the rent increases are justified with increased costs.

Making even more oppresive regulations for landlords is sure to encourage more rentals

Re: Rent communists!
this isn't going to help the Market or encourage existing and potential new Landlords to rent
Of course renters don't build equity, you have to OWN something to get equity
Shocked the Liberal " sink" tank didn't suggest changing the name from Renter to something else
