I like the new location. I'm sure the parking issue will get sorted in time. I think I'll go draw there in the morning and have a coffee then walk over to the comic shop. It'll be a cool Saturday morning routine!

The old location is accessible by car, bike and there’s a Transit Hub at Orchard Park, right across the street.spooker wrote: ↑Mar 21st, 2024, 6:39 pmPart of the reason for moving was for accessibility. And being on Springfield will still have the issue of only being accessible by car easily. At the Landmark Centre you can use a car, take transit, and ride a bike. Choices are good.Mark1111 wrote: ↑Mar 21st, 2024, 4:18 pm Some good location ideas here. I would suggest the fallow field adjacent to FortisBC on Springfield. The Farmer’s Market is as close to an appropriate ALR application as you can get and this land will NEVER be farmed. I think the FM and the COK should approach the land owners (the Bennet Cabal?), and get them to give back to the community by way of a land donation.
Be careful when you follow the masses.

Yes, one could use all modes of transportation to get there but I think most would agree that anything besides using a car was less than convenient. And questionably safe if on a bicycle.Anonymous123 wrote: ↑Mar 27th, 2024, 5:13 pmThe old location is accessible by car, bike and there’s a Transit Hub at Orchard Park, right across the street.
Compared to now having the bus stop directly outside the vendor area, even having the overpass if using the bus coming west. And having separated infrastructure if using a bicycle.

With fewer vendors and shoppers on Wednesday, perhaps not. I'm sure the vendors won't complain about the higher foot traffic from those taking their lunch break in the nearby offices.

That area is a gong show on Wednesdays already. Might be good for the vendors, but I suspect the busy traffic and lack of parking will result in a barrier to drawing in customers who aren't already in the area for another reason.CrystalCity wrote: ↑Apr 4th, 2024, 10:56 pm With fewer vendors and shoppers on Wednesday, perhaps not. I guess we'll know for sure shortly!

I'm pretty surprised by a lot of the negativity regarding this awesome move! I shop at the market almost every week, have for years, and last Sat was AMAZING!!!! There is TONS of designated FREE parking, and entire parkade is available. The layout is fantastic, a strip along Dickson, then a short walk through the parkade to the District Market area, and the another short distance (with ramps) to the Tree of Hope Plaza. Wednesday's there is just the district market and Tree of Hope, no strip on Dickson. Everything is clean, multiple areas to sit and enjoy a coffee or snack, and the surroundings are aesthetically pleasing. I believe this move is going to explode the popularity of the Farmers Market, it is FAR superior to the old location and I was blown away by how well organized it was on the first day. Some people have a hard time with change, and struggle to see the positives about this, but from my perspective it was a massive improvement. Can't wait for tomorrow!

"...awesome move...? The neighbouring businesses already have professionally made signs out with "NO MARKET PARKING" on them. The sign maker thought it was awesome.

And there you have it, "Don't Park at Parkinson."
That didn't take long. Who saw that coming? Not the organizers. I actually feel very badly for the vendors.

as for parking, the article says it impacted on senors wanting to use the Rec Centre. Won't bust anyone to actually walk a few blocks to hit up the Market Imo
