We need a wet spring/early summer. We could be in for far worse than last year. Lets hope the weather cooperates!

Everyone should enjoy the smokeless air while we have it, Spring, Summer and early Fall could be filled with smoke.

Fire Depts tanker truck was on it's way when I drove by.

When out in the 3 blind mice trails, the pine needles and bush is very dry.

The funny think about all this cli9mate change crap is that the rich have not stopped what the rich do.
The only crisis there is affects the poor only. Go figure.

You're confusing "panic" with "preparedness". Nobody is panicking.

Granted snowpacks are down compared to recent years, however we could have a rather wet summer, much like we had in 2004, the summer after the OK. MT. park fire.

More than likely we will have fire starts from man in one form or another, but who is to say we will have large lightening events which start the majority of forest fires.

If it is dry and we have a ton of lightning over July and August, really not much we can do about it. Just hope we don't have strong winds at the time of ignition.

Problem is 2003 was 20 years ago. Extremely dry and hot summers have been occurring at an increasing rate, you're more likely to have 2 bad fire seasons in a row now than you were in 2003.

1998, 2003, 2009, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2023. It's basically a coin toss at this point if it will be a drought and heat filled summer or not. Again, not saying people should panic but it's always good to be prepared.

It’s April 20 and we have three fires burning out of control, Lytton, Kamloops and Oliver. And one power plant that services from Summerland to Kelowna that is always in danger every summer. Do you have any idea what would happen if that burned? And it almost did. All people living in residential buildings would have to evacuate after ten days as that is only how long the water plants generator will work. I would think a small degree of panic will be soon on the horizon. NEVER have we had three out of control fires burning in the okanagan in April.

It won’t even take humans or lightning to spark fires this spring/ summer as last years fires are still burning just under the surface. Just a few hot days will do it.

"The BC Wildfire Service is responding to multiple wildfires within the Cariboo Fire Centre. The largest of which is the Burgess Creek wildfire (C20117), located 45 kilometres south of Quesnel and is approximately 50 hectares in size.

Due to strong winds, the Burgess Creek wildfire is producing a large column of smoke that is visible from Highway 97, Williams Lake, and Quesnel. Crews, aircraft and heavy equipment are on site. Three other fires south of Quesnel are also being monitored by aircraft and crews are responding as required.

UPDATE 7:50 a.m.

The BC Wildfire Service says the spot fire near Westside Road is under control.

It remains at less than one hectare in size.

The fire is believe to be human caused.

Always good news to hear that (the under control bit)
