Ladies only

Post by Snickerdoodle »

Soooo... has anyone paid to have a bikini wax? Can you suggest anyone? How long does it last?
I've heard that lazer removal is a wee bit on the expensive side.
Suggestions????

I popped in just to see why it was Ladies only... Now I must run... this waxing thing sounds too painful for any Man to endure! And from the blood curdling screams coming from upstairs the last time the wife had some friends over for a waxing party I'd say it's just plain wrong! I did try some coily hair remover gizmo once on my arm at the suggestion of the wife, just to see how painless it was.... It didn't gently remove the hair like in the commercial, it knotted 37 hairs into a mass, buzzed, and yarded the damn hair out by the roots! AuuuugggghhhhHHHHH! :purefury:

I must say, my admiration for what you gals put up with is right up there!

Cheers! And good luck.

I'm sure many will refer some fabulous waxers here in Kelowna, I go to Vernon for mine...
As for how long it lasts, it really depends on your hair growth. I'd say between 3-6 weeks. THe major benefit is that the more you wax, the more it damages the hair follicle and you won't grow any hair there anymore!
It does hurt a bit, so be prepared. And please go to somebody that knows what they are doing...if they tell you it costs $5, run and hide!

When I lived in Kelowna, I went to a Lebanese woman. It's part of their culture (well, they sugar, but same thing really), and so she was a pro. I was a HUGE chicken as I have a fairly low pain tolerance. She told me to take a couple of Tylenol 30 minutes before so it would be more tolerable. It stung, but the pain wasn't as bad as I imagined. Over time, she convinced me to get the whole kitty done and not just the whiskers. I was in a brave mood that day and told her to go for it. Believe it or not, the 'whiskers' hurt more than the 'kitty'.

You know what was more painful to wax? My underarms. The first couple of times I had them done, I actually had tears in my eyes. The wonderful thing about waxing, is that when the hair grows in, it is much more fine, much like baby hair, so as time goes by, the pain lessons. On a pain scale of 1-5, I would rate my 'whisker' wax a 2.5, and my 'kitty' wax a 1-1.5.

Tawney is right, go to someone who knows what they are doing. The lady who did my waxing is no longer in the biz, so unfortunately I cant recommend her. Ask around, get positive referrals, but don't blindly choose someone out of the phone book. You really want this done by an expert.

A little waxing humour for you. :discodance:

Nothing like seeing a grown man in some pain, pain we woman have endured for centuries. I dunno, but it brings a little tear to my eye, and a huge chuckle!

I go there too! The only thing I don't like is that they don't do a Brazilian there, just the French bikini.

Beyond Wrapture (in Coast Capri) - it really is "ouchless" (there's a quick sting for about a split second and that's about it, the worst part of the whole ordeal is the build-up of anticipation). Their # is 448-8899.

Silky Smooth Body Waxing 15 min. minimum $20

Beyond Wrapture Skin Care Therapists are skilled at waxing unwanted hair from your legs, eyebrows, lip, chin, arms, bikini, chest and back. No need to ‘ouch’ we use the best products for these sensitive treatments.

Some salons recommend Tylenol for the pain, some recommend Ibuprofen for pain AND the minor swelling. For myself, I prefer to use Ibuprofen as it reduced any "kitty inflammation" - and like another person said, it hurts much less to get the whole dang kitty done over just the whiskers.

I just heard back from my estetician that I went to in Kelowna and she said Julene at Avitas is experienced in waxing, including brazillian.

Thanks ladies - and sorry to make you men squirm! I will contact the people that have been mentioned here. I'm a bit of a prude, so I think I'll start with the whiskers and leave the kitty for now.

I'm not a prude, however, I'm gonna follow your advice and do the whiskers too.... :coffeecanuck:

Another suggestion is this. If you are going for the first time, I would suggest maybe giving yourself a wee little scissor trim first if you're ummmmm, ummmmmm, well you know. *blush* Not short though, just a lil off the top, so to speak.
