How disturbing. I mean, people have the right to their beliefs, but that is just a completely irresponsible reaction on the parents' part to their son's medical condition!
It reminds of the utter stupidity of the parents in the BC sextuplets story last year.

Where oh where’d my body go?
Africa or Mexico?
Where or where’d my body go?
Where’d my body go?
Have you seen my ghost?
Staring at the ground?
Have you seen my ghost?
Sick of those *bleep* clouds

Whatever the video was, it has been removed.

WD, the video is there now...I'm watching it.
Do a Scroogle search for Neil Beagley(also 'Neal Beagley') and you will find tons on it, including alternative video sources.

Still not there. Oh well, found the info elsewhere.
I don't buy any of that crap. To me it's criminal, pure and simple. If the parents want to mess around with their own health they should be free to do so. When it comes to the kids, no way.
I'm usually one for due process and all but this type of story really gets to me. My suggestion for the parents of Neal is that they should be put in separate jail cells. Then an officer should shoot each parent in the stomach. The parents should then be told, "Pray. If you survive, you get to go free."

I believe an old Roman torture cum execution method was to tie-up the male organ. Perhaps that would be more apt for the father. As for the mother?
What horrifies me further, is towards the end of the segment, the reporters start listing other infants that have also died unnecessarily this year alone, in the same community. Why are the authorities not removing these children from their parents?

Terrible and shameful is all I can say. As a woman of faith, I believe in the power of prayer, however I also believe it goes hand in hand with medical intervention. I certainly hope the parents are charged.

This does not only happen in America, you just hear about it more when it does.

So aside from saying "The parents brainwashed him!" which is nothing more than speculation, he made the decision himself and no one did anything wrong.
Tuesday's death of 16-year-old Neil Beagley, however, may not be a crime because Oregon law allows minors 14 and older to decide for themselves whether to accept medical treatment.
"All of the interviews from last night are that he did in fact refuse treatment," police Sgt. Lynne Benton said Wednesday

This particular church advocates shunning of members who do not follow it's practices, just as Jehovah Witness's, many of the Amish and the Polygamist Mormons do. This is why many kids never leave their faith, even if they come to question their beliefs. To question the spiritual beliefs that have been instilled in them from infancy and to exercise free will, choosing not to practice, often means never having contact with your family again.
What should the law be in regards to age of consent for ones own medical treatment or refusal of....18? These children who are brought up in these extreme cultish faiths would probably go along with what their parents and the elders of the church are telling them, no matter if they are 10, 15 or 18, they know no better. It's just so incredibly sad though to think that people are needlessly dying.

Unfortunately, Neil Beagley was but one of the children that were murdered. The rest were under 14.
Let's speculate that Neil did not have the health problem that led unnecessarily to his death. It's clear that he was already brainwashed to a point beyond reason, as proven by his refusal of medical treatment in the real world; so can it be safe to assume that if he had lived long enough to reproduce successfully, potentially he would have become a child murderer himself in the future?
When I look at it in that light, I'm satisfied that he has posthumously won a Darwin Award, for the sake of the offspring that he could have had.
The authorities need to break the cycle of brainwashing now, to protect the future of the current generation of children going through the mill.

I was raised Jehovah's Witness, chose not to follow and still have full contact with my family, as well as many Witnesses I'm not related to in the least.
There are a lot of misguided ideas about some religions ("cultish" being a good one. They're no more a cult than the Catholic Church). Let's not forget free will includes going with the beliefs of your parents as well as against them.

Then you are either one of a few who can and does remain in contact, or the JW's have changed their ways in regard to shunning. I don't want to get into a debate on this though, as it will only derail the thread. I am glad you are still able to be part of your family.

Re: When Child Killers Go Free In America: If It's Religion!
I've never seen anyone "shunned" to the point where they can't have contact with family or anyone in the religion. I've seen people get "disfellowshipped" who are no longer JWs, but they can talk to whomever they like and whoever wants to can talk to them. They're just not JWs.
I won't go off on a rant either, as you're right, this thread isn't about JWs. I will say I'm not one of "a few" I'm actually one of many and I'm one of many who is tired of misinformation floating around.
