Stupidity or Incompetence?

Post by sleepdeprived »

Recently, Pope Benedict un-excommunicated a number of Bishops and welcomed them back into the arms of the Church in an attempt to heal a schism within the Catholic Church.

The embarrassing thing is that one of these Bishops (Williamson) is a holocaust denying sort of a guy who suggests that the extermination of millions of jews during the second world war simply didn't happen. In fact, this Bishop supported the work of other known holocaust deniers in Canada and was a hairs breadth away, at one point, from being charged in Canada under anti-hate legislation.

The welcoming of this guy back into the fold by Pope Benedict has brought the Church into disrepute and thrown the Catholic hierarchy into a damage control spin fest.

In doing this, the Pope has demonstrated real insensitivity and has damaged the Church's brand worldwide. It's the kind of act that makes me wonder if he is either not too bright or demonstrably incompetent.

What do you think?

Ratzeberger is a log of dog doo. He was a member of he nazi youth during WW2. He has helped cover up the molester priests that keep popping out of the wood work. Now he reinstates a holocaust denier? Wow, good thing he's infallible. haha. He's dragging his church back to the 50's when hating jews was doctrine.

Bad move in my opinion. Any holocaust deniers should automatically be sent to Iran to study under the tutiledge of ahmadinjad... what ever happens to them when they get there... C'est la vie.

Okay, we all know that he looks odd. In fact that sly grin is the obvious mark of moral ambivalence. A man fully capable of dropping a high octane sbd in a crowded elevator.

but...

To get back on track, whadya make of his performance as Pope?

I am not roman catholic but what I see is any work that John Paul had done to start communication. Between catholic leadership and jewish leadership will be stalled if not a few step backward, due to this un-excommunicated of Williamson. IMO

Still more on disgraced Catholic Bishop Richard Williamson.

What was it that James said in 1:19 and 20?
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

I recommend the documentary Constantine's Sword. It's an excellent look at the church's past, including the evangelical movement in the U.S. It provides some insight into the Roman Catholic Church's culpability in the Holocaust, among other historical injustices.
