NDP: This is what Liberals are doing wrong.

Party that has no real foundation for their campaign and bases the whole thing on attacking the other party should not be in charge.

As Urbane suggested earlier, the Liberals would be using attack ads if they were currently the opposition party...

I just happen to think that the Liberals are lying through their teeth when they suggest that they have done well by the province...

You're comparing Glenn Clark to O.J. Simpson? The two cases are not analogous, and it makes you sound desperate to deflect attention away from Campbell's criminal record....

Privatization and deregulation are ruining British Columbia's economy.

Also, who do you blame the recent loss of 22,000 jobs in B.C. on? The party in power, or the opposition?

Usquebaugh post is typical of NDP’s supporters and how they view the world. Campbell evil. NDP good. It the same song and dance that the NDP try and do every election and it seldom succeeds unless there is a split in the vote somewhere. Unfortunately that split can also happen with the NDP as record amounts of supporters are heading over to the Green Party in large part because of the NDP’s stupid idea of opposing the Carbon Tax simply so they can replace it with a hidden more expensive carbon tax.

BC Liberals of course see things different than NDP’ers do. We see the NDP as evil. I don’t think we see Campbell as the saviour; but we do recognize that Carole James and the NDP is not the answer. More so in light of the ridiculous campaign platform they introduced yesterday.

Ultimately for either party to hope for electoral success they must entice voters from the mainstream; those that typically are not hard core NDP’ers or right wing nut jobs like me. We are already committed in our voter intentions. In order to entice mainstream voters I submit that much as Obama has proven people can and will vote for a positive vision.

I think the NDP has made a mistake by going negative. Those that are negative already support the NDP; but mainstream voters I submit will be looking for a positive vision for BC. The days of negative American Republican style attack ads are over; mercifully killed off by Obama but unfortunately the NDP is trying the same ol’ same ol’ negativity.

Right now we are a province that needs a strong vision and a positive direction. Dark clouds and negativity are the last thing BC needs and unfortunately for the NDP it is all they seem to be selling. I honestly think (and expected) that the “new” NDP could have and should have done better. At least May 12 will come quickly enough and we will all find out the how BC voters really feel.

Nah. I don't hear NDP saying all the great things they did when they were in power. Oh wait, they didn't do any.

I just happen to think that the Liberals are lying through their teeth when they suggest that they have done well by the province.

That's your right. I happen to think they did a good job. Not great - but very reasonable outcome.

I haven't seen any attack ads so far but it seems to be the typical political approach these days so not unexpected, ...particularly if they properly address real issues and are not full of untruths and misleading or irrelevant information as seems all too often the case IMO. I find it difficult to know just who and what to believe any more from either side.

Still, this voter will be looking not so much at which party does the best job of slamming the other as a reason to vote against, ...but rather which party does the best job of identifying and prioritizing the real issues as I see them...

..and telling me exactly what they intend to do about them should they form the next government in return for my vote.

In other words, giving me something of substance to vote FOR, not against.

For me, over the next four years issues related to education fall far behind those related to the economy, health care, drugs and crime, policing, growing excessive taxation, and lack of government transparency which leads to possibilities of corruption and waste. I for sure want to see public business done in public. We have a legislature for a reason, although I admit it became a waste to keep the lights on there during the first 4 years of this present government since they held virtually all the seats. No excuse for keeping the lights out over the last 4 years however. I want to see government working, not preventing the official opposition from doing so.

Unfortunately, I so far have the sense that the inefficient and too often incompetent public school system ("Education" - K - 12) will likely receive a disproportionate share of attention (and available tax dollars) from the NDP, while "Business" and lower mainland transportation and development infrastructure will continue to receive a disproportionate share from the Liberals.

As for the net loss of approximately 73,000 jobs in BC over the past 12 months, obviously that cannot be blamed on the opposition. But I have difficultty accepting it can be blamed on the BC Liberals either. And I agree with Bellevuejim that the constant harping on Campbell's DUI in Hawaii is largely irrelevant in terms of being an election issue (if it ever really was).

And from the article usquebaugh linked, this to me is a more real issue... Quote: " "People are upset. They feel abandoned. And they want this government to stop looking just at the Lower Mainland and start looking at the rest of the province to solve the problems."

...remember, approximately half of BC's population DOES NOT live and work in the lower mainland.

Nobody wants to take a foul mouth bride dressed as a hooker to the alter.

Now if they could assemble a platform to benefit British Columbians and earn their vote then we would have a horse race.

Thanks for that Steven.

Since I genuinely would like to see a coherent and well thought out plan for British Columbians I followed your links.

Here's the link to the NDP's platform...

http://www.bcndp.ca/files/u108/BCNDP09_Platform_2009-_Final-April9_last3.pdf

At the very first opportunity Ms James takes to bashing rather than telling me what she is going to do for me...

Take Back Your British Columbia

British Columbia is our home. We cherish its natural beauty, its incredible diversity, and its history.

The values that helped build BC – hard work, fairness, and the public good – are as important
today as ever.

But for the last eight years the Campbell government has undermined these values, giving away
BC to private interests, making life less affordable for average families, and slashing vital public
services that you count on – like health care and education.

Now, with job losses growing, communities struggling, and families worried about their future,
Gordon Campbell’s tax increases and service cuts are making life harder for average families.
After eight years, it’s clear you can’t trust Gordon Campbell to put average people first. His plan
is wrong for families, wrong for communities, and wrong for the economy.

I have read all of those links and the entire NDP platform. Even a first year economics or business student can see the very serious flaws in the NDP platform. I will be posting more on this later.

I look forward to it Al. I'd appreciate some thoughtful and intelligent feedback.

Here's the FIRST page of the NDP's platform document after the Table of Contents....

It’s time to end eight years of Gordon Campbell’s arrogance and neglect

It’s time to Take Back Your BC.

On May 12, British Columbians will choose between two very different futures for our province.
Gordon Campbell is making life harder and less affordable for working families. He’s increasing taxes
and cutting the services you depend on.
Gordon Campbell’s plan:
• Increases taxes for average families by tripling the gas tax. And Campbell’s top advisor says it has to
increase to 24 cents on every litre of gas.
• Breaks his promise to build 5,000 long-term care beds and improve care for seniors.
• Cuts the budget for community safety, including courts, prosecutors and corrections.
• Continues the sell-off of BC’s lands, rivers and streams to private interests.
• Promotes offshore oil and gas and other environmentally-destructive practices.
With BC’s economy hurting, Gordon Campbell can’t be trusted to protect you in tough times. And if he’s elected he will use the recession to slash vital public services even further and increase your taxes.

More platform - less ego please.

Re-read the post then, and perhaps do so more slowly for comprehension...

steven, I, too, would like to hear Al's rebuttal, as his considerations won't be so illogical!
