I'm old enough to remember the following very clearly -
-The last time the NDP was in power this Province went from number 1 in the Country to number 10.
-Not one NDP Premier was EVER re-elected. Every one of them had to step down in shame.
-The local economy was so bad that people headed to Albert in droves to find work.
-They brought in ICBC squashing any public or private insurance company's ability to do business in the auto sector.

4 points made by Tony Steven. Instead of yawning, how about 4 valid refutations of them? Can you do so?

Ok,

don't believe the first one
know the second one's not true
don't necessarily buy into the third one completely (not that simplistic), and
not necessarily a bad thing

Still, old rhetoric ...

... and now I really got to go. See ya.

Ok smarty, let's take the second point for starters. Give us the names of any NDP Premiers of BC who got a second chance to mess up further ;-)

The New Democratic Party governed BC for nine and a half years, winning two back-to-back general elections in 1991 and 1996 before being defeated in 2001. Although the party's majority was reduced in 1996, it was nevertheless able to triumph over the divided remnants of the Social Credit Coalition. In 1991, due in part to Social Credit's scandal-plagued final term in office under Premier William Vander Zalm and in part to the stellar performance of then-BC Liberal leader Gordon Wilson in the televised leader's debate, the old Social Credit vote split between the BC Liberals, which garnered 33% of the vote and BC Social Credit Party with 25%. This allowed the NDP, under the leadership of former Vancouver mayor Michael Harcourt, who had succeeded former leader Bob Skelly in 1987, to win with 41% of the popular vote (one percentage point lower than the share the party had lost with in 1986).

Steven-
I didn't say they didn't win the elections, what I said was not one Premier had back to back terms. Not one of the NDP Premiers held power for more than one (or less than) term. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Let me know where we stood in the Country when the Liberals took power. We sure as heck weren't number 1.

Agreed on both points, and private enterprise could be a great thing if the real conditions of a "free market" still existed. Unfortunately what we have now is corporate socialism, or what is often more correctly referred to as corporate welfare. We operate on the assumption that if we could just make the powerful, rich and wealthy powerful, rich and wealthy enough some of that wealth would ultimately have to start and trickle down to us. Economists who are studying this theory are still waiting to see that happen. They have, however, since studying this hypothesis noted many instances where it failed to happen (eg. Reagan and his so-called supply-side voodoo economic policies contribution to the collapse of the commodities market in the early eighties). They have also noted that the income gap (and all the social problems associated with it) continues to increase. Interestingly, I believe BC has one of the largest income gaps in the world with Brazil and China (after only a reletively few years of experimenting with capitalism) being on top.

It should be further noted that during the boom and busts of our economic cycles it is always the poor and middle working class asked to tighten their belts and make sacrifices. Now don't get me wrong. I believe those CAW Workers down east need to give their head a shake. You're currently getting $76 / hr including benefits and you're being asked to give up $19 / hr to earn $57 / hr including benefits. I understand that is a 33% deduction in wages but the alternative is the unemployment line. That being said, I wonder how many top executives and CEO's (the ones who allowed this mess to happen) are prepared to take 33% wage cuts.
