Recommend a tattoo artist

Post by uncle.zippy »

Anybody have a suggestion for a good tattoo artist?

I'm looking for someone to do a portrait style tat. I heard there was a really good artist in Vernon, but can't remember the name or the shops name.

That would be Dustin at Five Fathoms

I will second that. High standards of health and of art.

Never understood people who go for tattoos.

You might be looking for Rob at Genesis. Awesome work but a year long waiting list.

Rob at Genesis is the man to see, his wife Janette does nice work too.

It's well worth the year wait to get an appointment.

How come Vernon gets all the good artists??? I've seen some work from locals here that wasn't bad, but nothing like what I've seen out of Vernon. There's another guy (Rob, I think, at Suncity [???] in Penticton) is pretty good, though I've not seen a portrait done by him (don't know if he does that).

I just had a new tattoo done by the lovely Cheri @ Inked Expressions. She is on the Westside. I did my homework before going in.... Looked at her art on display. She was profesional, the shop was extremely clean and she did an awesome job! One thing that stuck to me (I haven't had a tattoo done in about 7 years) was that she made me pay attention to her organizing, getting her supplies out and ready. (to prove that she follows the regulations I assume) She is BC healthboard approved also....

Hey thanks for the kudo's, it was a pleasure!! It's cool to see clients doing homework before getting inked :)

I set up in front of you so you could see that all of it was new/unopened and sterile (not for regulation reasons), I like to do that for all my clients because it is a better feeling than wondering when you walk in somewhere and see all that already setup. I would never want someone leaving and wondering if the needles/inks/etc were sterile, it is good to see clients are asking important things like "Does your shop have an autoclave" and educating themselves in things like spore testing/cross contamination/ safety practices.

*Side note* there are still silly things like someone calling shops and asking if they tattoo people with HIV and Hep.... We (tattoo studio's) get a LOT of prank calls and tend to dismiss things like that particular call when we in fact treat every client like they have something by practicing proper safety protocol with protective gear (gloves, masks, aprons/plastic sleeves/etc). Instead of calls perhaps a better method would be going in and seeing if the tattoo artist is knowledgeable ... JUST a suggestion, not trying to slam whoever made the calls ;)

Ryan Cardinal. Shinobi Studios. N'uff said.

My Dad and I have both gotten tattoos from Cheri at Inked Expressions as well, and both enjoyed the experience. Cheri is very organized and clean, and is an amazing artist. Unlike some places I've been too, she makes sure every thing is sanitary before she begins the tattoo process, and tells you what she's doing every step of the way.

Jer Papove is an amazing artist, super clean, and very good rates.. he's unnoticed in Kelowna right now, but will become bigger very soon. He works at young guns in rutland, and dont judge the shop by the location, it is the cleanest shop around, he's very professional, experienced, creative, and artistic. If you are looking for a one of a kind tattoo, go to him.
