Yes, almost all clocks do not have crystals, but instead rely on the frequency of the electricity supply to keep time. That 0.3 Hz change means the clocks are 0.5% faster than they should be, which adds up after a while.
Hmm, I thought that most of the 'electric' alarm clocks had battery back-up, or at the very least a capacitor that could store a few minutes worth of energy(for quick power disruptions). If this is the case then they most certainly will have a crystal oscillator of some kind for secondary time control. The easiest test for the capacitor theory would be to pull the plug for a minute or so and see if the clock resets to 12:00 or not.

This calls for an experiment. I am going to test mine right now...

Yup, my clock runs on an internal oscillation circuit of some kind. It has battery backup, but if you had one without some sort of battery backup it would probably synchronize with the AC signal. Not too sure how many clocks do this, but enough for it to make news on CBC.
I haven't seen Steven Lloyd on here for a couple of days, perhaps his clock is moving too fast for him to find time to join us.

Swimbo must have gone to bed, & she is letting you play on the net again Glace.
Do what I did, put a photo of meself on the lid of the laptop, that way when she looks, she sees me looking right back.

Sally in Prince Rupert gets up for work at the regular time on Monday.
She always shows up to work on
On Tuesday, she shows up for work more than 7 minutes early.
On Wednesday, she is over 14 minutes early for work.
Come Friday she is 36 minutes early for work.
Why?
Ask questions, and I will give clues.
She loves her job?
She has some projects that MUST be completed before she can go home on Friday?
She works flex-time?
On Monday she was experimenting with a new look (make-up and hair-style) and as the week went on, she got faster at primping?
BTW, Sally wears a watch!

I plug my watch in, Sally should too, or she wont be in time with the rest of us.

Sally marches to her own drum and does not care to be in time with others.

Hmm, it was a case of "Run, Sally, run. Run, run, run."

I think she should invest in better curtians. Come winter she may never get to work if she relys on the sun rising to wake her up.
