Dry/cracked feet

I hope i get some good responses here!!

Ok, my feet are in such rough shape during the summer

My heels and soles of my feet are so dry and cracked and sore...anyone reccommend a good cream or a good regime that is somewhat low maintenance as well as efficient??????

I have tried several over the counter lotions as well as the pedipal (the thing that "grates" the dry skin off) I use lotion at night just before bed and my feet are ok until 1/2 way through the day I start to feel them acting up again....i am at a loss as what to purchase next.

Use a good-quality moisturizing cream (granny always used Noxzema) and just before going to bed, slather it on your feet (you want enough so you can see the cream on your feet) and then put on a thin pair of 100% cotton socks. Works wonders for hands as well. The cotton helps the absorption of the cream into your skin. You should see the difference in 3-4 days.

Or, if you can find a store that carries animal products, get some Hoofmaker. It's made by Straight Arrow and is the best for healing cracks. My gf who works at grooming horses told me about it - she uses it daily on the horses she looks after seeing what it did for them, tried it on her hands and feet. Works like a charm.

If you can't find Hoofmaker, try looking for bag balm - it's used to heal cracks and chapped skins on cow's udders. My uncle used it all the time and swore by it. If it's good enough for Shania Twain, it's good enough for us.

Loveeeeeee bag balm. Works really well and you don't have to use it all the time. Just until things are back to your normal softness.

I just started using Kiss My Face olive oil lotion. It is great. Absorbs well but doesn't feel sticky.

I found that doing the cream thing really helps... along with easing up on the sandals during the day. yes it is nice out and you want to be casual/comfy... but that leads to all the dirt/dust/dryness messing with your feet.

Doing the lotion thing at night, and then switching over to runners for a few days helps out immensely.

I used to walk barefoot a lot in the summer and the soles of my feet got pretty tough. Occasionally I'd get a big crack in the bottom of my foot making it very uncomfortable to walk. I'd just wash it thoroughly and then crazy glue it back together... I'd be walking again in seconds.

You'd be surprised! I hear crazy glue is not far removed from surgical glue . . .

I've tried liquid bandaid, and I think it is basically crazy glue. You don't want something like that on your feet though, because it dries the skin out further.

If it's bad enough and painful give it a try, they use it in some hospitals for similar things and sometimes even use crazy glue in replacement of stitches as it leaves no stitch marks but everyone knows it bonds skin better than anything. I had a good chunk of a tooth knocked out once and as I couldn't see my dentist for a week and didn't want to look like a hockey player, I glued that back on too until I could get it fixed... my dentist said they often do the same thing but just call it surgical glue. Just call me Doctor Crazy..... um ....... glue.

If done properly it won't dry your feet more as the glue is not on the outside of the foot as much as in the sole holding things together.

I used it when I slammed my thumb in the car door. After a couple of weeks, the nail started to fall off. I used Krazy Glue until the new nail was exposed enough that it would protect the flesh.

Good call - both are made by Straight Arrow. And the Mane 'n Tail shampoo and conditioner are awesome products - your hair will be soft as a baby's bum and shiny. Think it was Walgreen's in the US who started ordering the shampoo and conditioner when customers started requesting it. They couldn't keep it on the shelves - sold out as soon as a new shipment hit the stores.

Have a pedicure first if possible. If you cannot get a pedicure, soak your feet and use a pumice stone on the back of the heel and get rid of all dead skin. I use a paddle that looks like sandpaper and gentle rub on all the dry areas.

Gold bond has a very good foot and heal cream. Cream day and night and go to bed with socks on after you cream your feet.

I was a cosmetologist in my early days. Soak, remove dry skin, and Cream, Cream, and Cream.
