The Pollution in Newborns

Post by tazmandew »

Are you pregnant or know someone that is?
Do you want to know how to protect you baby before its born?
Everyone needs to read this article if they are expecting or know someone that is.

YOU NEED TO KNOW BECAUSE THIS AFFECTS ALL OF US.

"Commenting on the study, Gabriella Pridjian, M.D., chair of obstetrics and gynecology at Tulane in New Orleans, said, "The interesting part of this study is that they found 287 different chemicals in the cord blood. We're just beginning to learn what these environmental exposures can do to the fetus."

The umbilical cord carries not only the building blocks of life, but also a steady stream of industrial chemicals, pollutants and pesticides that cross the placenta as readily as residues from cigarettes and alcohol.

"Of the 287 chemicals we detected in umbilical cord blood, we know that 180 cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animal tests"

If a pregnant woman is exposed to a pesticide at the wrong time, the study suggests, her children, grandchildren and the rest of her descendants could inherit the damage and diseases caused by the toxin -- even if it doesn't involve a genetic mutation.

Thats kinda scary considering something simple as breathing in the air and drinking water contain many unknown toxins.

Today doctors use cord blood cells to treat about 70 diseases, mostly anemias or cancers of the blood, such as leukemias and lymphomas. Umbilical cord blood cells are capable of forming many different cell types (they are 'multipotent')."

So far six thousand patients worldwide have been treated with cord blood stem cell transplants to date, though the U.S. Food and Drug Administration still considers the procedure experimental.

But what happens when the cells from the umbilical cord, already poisoned from environmental toxins, get used in medical treatments to cure us? Do you think, in your opinion, there will be a disastrous repercussion to our health because of this? Or do you think that the benefits from this will far outweigh the risks?

Are we doing enough to prevent this from happening to our unborn children? To our own health?
Are there too many pollutants on this earth already for anything to be done? Can something be done now to stop this?

Let me know what you think. Share your views on the topic, and how to best go about solving this worldwide problem.

Fear mongering.
Looks like a vague study done by people from a flaky website with a definite agenda.

Uh oh, I'm 8 months pregnant and haven't been living in an iron lung. I guess my baby will come out with 3 arms, 1 leg, and 2 heads. <end sarcasm>

I am so sick of people telling me what will harm my baby. People have been having babies for hundreds of thousands of years with no "What to Expect When You're Expecting" books, studies on the deadliness of chemicals, specialized pregnancy diets, or anything else for that matter and they did fine.

Quit spreading the fear.

I don't think it was wrong to post that at all, you never know now a days what to expect and everything changes day to day. I think it's a good idea to know the possibilies that may exist.

I don't think it was a scare tactic either, just something that they came across and decided to share.

Indica (nice name btw), of course your baby will be fine but it is really hard to keep up on all the new studies and things really do change day by day. Perhaps a thanks but no thanks would have been in order....
