Well, we dove in. Bought a Wii yesterday and got the Wii fit plus as well. Will report as we figure out how to use the thing. We have only played a few of the games (tennis, boxing, bowling) so it should be fun to try out all the other stuff that comes with the fit.

So here we are what...10 days later? We still haven't tried out all the games, but we have used it every day. We each do at least 30 minutes of combined activities. My husband is really addicted to the slalom skiing. I like (this is embarassing to say) the hula hoop, and the advanced step class.
I also like the rhythm boxing and the rhythm kung *bleep*. It's not like going to the gym by any means, but for us...that is the appeal.

I have Wii Fit Plus, as well as EA Sports Active and the new expansion for EA Active. I had to chime in because the EA Sports Active, is not only a MUCH better workout, it is WAY more fun!!

BTW, I have hacked my Wii, and haven't paid for a game for almost a year. Some of the tutorials on the net for doing it might seems a little complicated, so if anyone needs any advice, just send me a message. I first heard of the hack from some friends who paid someone $300 to do it. I don't believe in that, as I feel you bought it, and can do what you want. Also, the people who wrote the program for the hacked Wii's stipulate that it is FREE, and if you paid for it, you should demand you $$ back.

Anyways, Keep fit and have fun!!

Just tried the expansion for EA Sport Active - it is a great workout and great fun too! (Ah hubris . . . now we know not to try "hard" before we try "easy" - the ab workout was killer).

I love the new activities offered, and how they have (somewhat) toned down the perkiness of the instructors. What they need, is the ability to change the setting for that. You could have it ranging from 10 (cheerleader perky) to 5 (average gym) to 1 (mildy intersted drill instructor). There are times when I hear a cheery soundbyte that I want to put my wiimote through the speakers to make it stop

Just Dance is another really fun game for the Wii to get you moving. Me and my kids love it, can't wait for the next disc to come out!

With the EA Sports Active do you need any special extras? Like I know with the Fit you need the board etc....I have neither, but had thought I wanted the Fit Plus, now it sounds like the EA Sports would be more up my ally....

When you buy EA Sport active, you get a leg band pocket (some exercises the nunchuk rides on your thigh) and a resistance band. You can buy those as a supplemental set if you need a 2nd pair; if you want to workout with a friend (Yay EB games!).

The expansion has options to use the wii balance board (which we don't have, so don't know how it works). I would recommend a yoga mat for the expansion, as you do some crunches and other things that require you to be on the ground (my tailbone is none too happy with me for attempting crunches on living room floor with no padding).

The workouts are really good - and it helps if you have the special wii-motion for some of the exercises.

What type of TV to use?

We are shopping for a new tv for the basement, where the Wii is set up,

The original plan was to move our rear projection down-stairs and get the new tv for upstairs, but am told that The screen will burn/imprint.

What tv type will suit the Wii ? Plasma, LED, etc. ?

I think it will work on any tv as long as it has audio and video inputs.
The Wii also has a setting to prevent the image being burned into the screen. (Remember PONG?)
I think it is sort of a sleep mode, where if the unit is not being used, it goes dormant. If you are worried, don't use your expensive TV. If it's downstairs, you can probably use any old colour set, with the right inputs that is.

Thanks GG, Our tv in the basement crapped out after many years of faithful service, I also do not trust salesmen very much, tell you what you want to hear...

That is why I put the query here so as to get a cross section of opinions and experiences. We also do not buy crap anymore, the "You get what you pay for " sindrome..

We would still like to have a top quality tv for movies and when we have the 'out-of-towners' staying here.

Although if it was of lower quality maybe they would'nt stay so long!! :nyah: :dyinglaughing:

Good points on both sides. I would suggest you get a decent tv for the basement, but make it small enough that you can move it. When the guests come, pull out the 13" black and white with rabbit ears.
