I think the majority of Canadians were on side with the Olympics and the interest was overwhelming. From TSN:

It was an epic game that delivered an epic audience.

Sunday's gold medal Men's Hockey game has become the most-watched television broadcast ever in Canadian history, with an average audience of 16.6 million viewers.

Nearly half of the Canadian population watched the entire game on average, while 80 percent of Canadians watched some part of the game (26.5 million). The game aired live on nine television networks in eight languages via Canada's Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium.

"Crosby scores! Sidney Crosby! The golden goal! And Canada has once-in-a-lifetime Olympic gold!," called play-by-play announcer Chris Cuthbert as Canada clinched its record-breaking 14th gold medal. "These Golden Games have their crowning moment."

Additionally, the 2010 Winter Games Closing Ceremony becomes the second most-watched broadcast ever, as 14.3 million viewers said goodbye to Vancouver 2010. A total of 24.5 million watched some part of the broadcast.

Another thing I find funny (and still not haha funny) is how people in the minority, on most issues, cry the loudest. Majority rules. That's why we have the local, provincial and federal government parties in charge that we do and that's why life goes the way it goes. If the majority of people want change then it will happen.

Just as an aside, another real funny thing about the majority is that people with above average intelligence and critical thinking skills form a minority group. It is true that only if the majority of people want change then it will happen. That is, however, not necessarily a good thing.

Well, this was the thread for all you pro-Olympic people to lay out how the money was going to come in to pay for your party. The original question was "How are you gonna pay for it?"

So, instead of attacking me, and others like me, why don't you stay on topic and just tell us Negative Nellies how it is you are going to accomplish all the wonderful things these Olympics hold in store for the future and how we are supposed to pay for them.

I suppose for some of you, there will be no debt. You are of the opinion that the bill is going to go *poof!* and just get paid somehow from other than taxpayers' pockets. Time will tell on that one - especially if you are naive enough to think that governments tell the truth always.

But there are other who do recognize the massive debt - and it's those who I would appreciate an answer from.

So ... once again - "How the hell are you gonna pay for it?"

Interesting thought Neb that "If you can't comprehend what happened in the near past, there's no sense in trying to explain a potential future".

What exactly did happen that was apparently so over the top special in the global Olympic scheme of things? Olympics come and go every couple of years, and this one happened to be on our home turf.

Most of us (whether pro Olympics, neutral, or anti) can comprehend it came with a staggering cost at a very unfortunate time that must now be paid for (over time), ...so that part of the potential future is pretty much assured.

Anything else is pretty much speculation when it comes to the general masses IMO, although there may be some who had some sort of life changing epiphany in the pride and patriotism department. But that could only be because those individuals didn't have it in the first place. What some here are saying is these Olympics didn't generate that in them, because they already had it.

And although it may come as a surprise to some who cannot understand it, there is in fact a huge percentage of people, both domestically and globally, who actually have little or no interest in the Olympics at all. Seems to me it's not ALL about just those who do.
