Was this serious?

Post by Abu »

Taken from the letters to the editor..

God listens to prayers
To the editor:
I arrived in Kelowna just over two years ago and began youth ministry
work at the Church of God in the Mission. When we heard of the
annual wake-fest that was bringing immorality into this city, some 60
young people banded together to pray weekly that this event would be
stopped.

Not long after the prayers began, the event was canceled. The
following year, we again prayed that this event would once again be canceled. It was.

This year, Penticton was supposed to host it, but again, it was
canceled.

Now we discover that the adult-oriented trade fair may not be happening either!

What we are realizing is that God is answering above and beyond even what we prayed for. Praise His Name!

Is this letter for real, or is someone pulling my leg? It is Friday...

I was just about to start a post on this topic...

All I can say at this time is, the Dark Ages are alive and well and infesting the minds of Kelowna youth.
You cannot reason someone out of a position that they did not use reason to arrive at.

What I find interesting is that Christians believe that Yehweh gives humans free will. If they prayed and Yehweh influenced the decisions of the people in charge of Wakefest that would violate free will.

Well, I also feel that if they do in fact have this kind of power, they should be using it for far better things...for example...I would like the lotto max this evening...lets get to working on that!

I love how christians claim that prayer works when things go in their favour. Too bad for them that, statistically speaking, prayer does absolutely nothing.

oh prayer does something - just because your prayers aren't answered doesn't mean god isn't listening, actually you can take the unanswered prayers as a big NO
I should go pray for the people who wear socks and sandals :D

I might try praying for an end to homophobia and child abuse. What's the worst that can happen?

I've been praying for an end to religion and all the People that go with it. Maybe I just need 59 more people to pray with me. Please, God, put a stop to all these religious morons.

If praying does nothing more than make the one praying feel better, then I guess it's got some value. :129:

I don't actually think it remotely possible that Wakefest was cancelled due to prayer and I find it disturbing that someone would tell youth that. Some that pray also say, as a disclaimer, "If it be thy will, Lord, do such and such." That's covers things for the years that events like Wakefest happen!
I have a relative that says, "I prayed about it, and felt impressed to do such and such." It is always interesting to me that she always feels impressed to do what she wants regarding a particular situation. :127:
It's possible to do all the right things and still get a bad result.

That's what you would call 'confirmation bias'.

Psychotropic pharmacology has long been able to treat this type of delusional thinking with medication. Of course, in our society you cannot force someone to take medication unless they are deemed to be a real physical danger to themselves or society and have been committed.
