Jack Layton...Professional snake oil salesman…

Post by Al Czervic »

I figured with ALL of the anti-Harper threads we needed at least one thread that exposed Jack Layton for being the Fiscal Fraud that he truly is. How many, for example, knew that he and his taxpayer supported politician spouse were caught red handed living in taxpayer subsidized housing in spite of having a combined taxpayer financed six figure salary? What kind of person already living off the backs of taxpayers further defrauds them? Answer? Jack Layton of course….

From time to time Jack Layton has been criticized for saying one thing and doing another, including being caught red-handed in living in subsidized housing in Toronto when his and Olivia Chow, then a Toronto trustee, were raking in a combined $120,000 year.

“Jack once told me many years after that incident that it is the one thing he has never able to purge or expunge from the public’s mind, this apparent contradiction,” said former seatmate Brian Ashton.

And of course the Layotn's continue to bill taxpayers for their expenses even today...yep. Jack Layton, just another “everyday” Canadian “looking out for the little guy”…

OTTAWA—Toronto's Jack Layton and Olivia Chow are Ottawa's million-dollar couple.

According to recently released House of Commons records, the NDP leader and his long-time wife, Chow, who is MP for Trinity Spadina, charged Canadian taxpayers about $1.16 million in MP expenses last year for running their offices, living in Ottawa and paying for associated travel costs.

and how about this one...

“It's within the law,” Chow snapped when asked why they both bill for accommodation while in Ottawa, (when they live together of course...)

More evidence on how Layton looks after our tax dollars...

Among party leader's, NDP Leader Jack Layton racked up the highest expense account despite being the leader of the smallest party. Layton billed taxpayers for $628,913.68, including $14,676 for his phone bill and $49,013 for "Ten percenters" -- the campaign-style mailings that MPs are allowed to send out on the taxpayer dime to ridings held by political opponents.

Yep....Jack Layton, looking after the "little guy" more like the truth is that it is really the little Guy who looks after Jack Layton...

LOL Al. And just think, if Jack becomes the leader of the official opposition he and Olivia will get to live on the taxpayers even bigger dime in the classy residence (and holiday resorts) set aside for that position. Perhaps he can offer Ignatieff a good deal on his and Olivia's former digs ;-) Not to buy of course, just to rent.

Olivia will be so pleased LOL. They will be so much better able to relate to the "little guy" with such digs to rattle around and party in. ;)

To be fair here's the rest of the story so people can see what actually transpired.

Layton and Chow were also the subject of some dispute when a June 14, 1990 Toronto Star article by Tom Kerr accused them of unfairly living in a housing co-operative subsidized by the federal government, despite their high income. Layton and Chow had both lived in the Hazelburn Co-op since 1985, and lived together in an $800 per month three-bedroom apartment after their marriage in 1988. By 1990, their combined annual income was $120,000, and in March of that year they began voluntarily paying an additional $325 per month to offset their share of the co-op's Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation subsidy, the only members of the co-op to do so. In response to the article, the co-op's board argued that having mixed-income tenants was crucial to the success of co-ops, and that the laws deliberately set aside apartments for those willing to pay market rates, such as Layton and Chow. During the late 1980s and early 1990s they maintained approximately 30% of their units as low income units and provided the rest at what they considered market rent. In June 1990, the city's solicitor cleared the couple of any wrong-doing, and later that month, Layton and Chow left the co-op and bought a house in Toronto's Chinatown together with Chow's mother, a move they said had been planned for some time.

So because they are both MP's (assuming both win re-election on Monday, unfortunately) will they get to double-bill the taxpayers - ie expense two Stornaways? I wouldn't put it past those two...

Nice spin….but tead the fine print in your own article….they got caught (i.e. reported on ) in June 14th of 1990….and according to your article they moved out of the same subsidized housing unit in 1990. They began living there in 1985. In other words they were happy to live there paying cheap rent for 5 years until they got caught and then suddenly decided to move….Pathetic.

Al, not my article - just something I found which showed they were cleared of any wrong-doing. Believe it or not, they weren't the only ones living in subsidized housing - could give you a list of names.

And let’s not forget when Jack Layton NEEDED medical treatment where did he go ? Guess who jumped the que and was the first person to run to a Private Clinic ?,,,why that would be Jack Layton of course…..funny how private care is a sin according to Jack Layton except of course for Jack Layton when it comes to HIS medical needs….

Layton accused of hypocrisy for visiting private clinic

Canada's top doctor singled out New Democrat leader Jack Layton yesterday for "hypocrisy" for undergoing hernia treatment at a private Toronto medical clinic

Canada's top doctor singled out New Democrat leader Jack Layton yesterday for "hypocrisy" for undergoing hernia treatment at a private Toronto medical clinic.

But Brian Day, president-elect of the Canadian Medical Association, was quick to note Layton is in good company.

Former prime ministers Paul Martin, Jean Chretien and Joe Clark also have been treated at private medical clinics, Day told the annual meeting of the Canadian Science Writers' Association.

And he said union leader Buzz Hargrove, president of the Canadian Autoworkers, proved a master at "queue jumping" when he got in for an MRI within 24 hours of injuring his leg.

"Even I couldn't do that," said Day, the outspoken and media savvy orthopedic surgeon who takes over in August as president of the CMA, which represents 62,000 physicians across Canada.

It's no different that Al Gore and David Suzuki telling everyone to use less, recycle and give give give to environmental organizations, meanwhile they jet-set around the country and own multiple houses. Hypocrisy is rampant among the world of the left - do as I say, not as I do.

Seems to me Stornoway is entirely managed and paid for by the taxpayers, so I doubt the Laytons will have any expense associated with it to claim (unless they deside to redecorate it in orange with orange trim and furnishings LOL). But it wouldn't surprise me a bit if they still maintained their individual Ottawa Offices and Residences (or at least one of them do even if they don't use them), as well as the much higher travel, entertainment, and admin expenses they will be allowed.

Neat thing about this thread is that it also brings into the light how well Iggy and his wife have been doing for the last 2 or 3 years thanks to the taxpayers who welcomed him "home" with such open arms, and Dion before him.

After it was pointed out to Layton that the famous Shouldice hernia centre where he had a hernia repair was a PRIVATE clinic he pretended to be surprised. He claimed that back then he hadn't realized it was a private clinic. How many people believe that? I have no problem with private clinics and have gone to one myself but I'm not running around preaching about the evils of "for profit" medical care.
