Yes, much like he didn’t think there was anything wrong with living in taxpayer subsidized housing even though he and his taxpayer financed wife ALREADY made over $ 100K a year paid for by the taxpayers…..not unlike nothing wrong with his and his now MP wife double billing for expenses……they are, after all, entitled to their entitlements…..

So because they are both MP's (assuming both win re-election on Monday, unfortunately) will they get to double-bill the taxpayers - ie expense two Stornaways? I wouldn't put it past those two...
They already are double billing. As Olivia Chow admitted "it's “within” the law....
Well, if the Nano's poll results Urbane posted in the other thread are any indication, perhaps Layton will be able to pass go (Stornoway) and move directly to 24 Sussex Drive instead. In addition to Prime Ministerial residence, pay, and perks, I've heard that also includes a large private passenger jet and Airforce crew that stands ready to transport him and Olivia on the taxpayer's dime anywhere in the world he wishes to go, along with whatever staff and media friends he wants to accompany him . Probably gets a private hairdresser and buttler to take along too LOL. And that expensive travelling wardrobe for them both too.
Not bad for a "little guy".

During the recession everyone in Canada's pay went down and services were cut, except for CEO's pay and bank profits of course. Their pay went up, profits went up and teveryone still got fat bonuses.

Nobody lives off the backs of taxpayers better than Layton?
There are alot of major companies and corporations in Canada that enjoy paying very little taxes. Whether you get paid with tax dollars or don't make people people tax dollars - same difference.
I think the banks, corporations and CEO's of Canada might disagree with you Al, at least in private.

That truly was an embarrassing moment for JackoLayton all right - you can see the surprise on the girl's face when he pulls down her arm, like "who the hell is grabbing me?"

You are right Bago - all that stuff you just said about CEO's justifies the Layton-Chow double-dipping on expenses and cheating of taxpayers.

Sounds like when the Senate blocked a bill without debate that parliament passed. Marjory Lebreton (Conservative) laughed and said "It's legal!". But let's not talk about the Senate, because Harper doesn't believe an unelected senate should be able to block an elected party right? No let's not talk about that at all, that would be a real issue, instead of this foolish "he's like a car salesman" Or "Jack-ass" or any of this stuff. You right wingers just like to talk about non-issues and dodge the real issues with "that's not an issue in the election".

Great attempt at deflection and subterfuge UR! You have a bright future in politics!

No question what may be a non-issue to me might be an issue to you, and vice-versa UR. I still maintain howver that our "issues" may not be (often are not) the primary issues as the competing parties see them. Another thing that arises (as we saw here in BC in provincial politcs), very often something might not become an issue in a campaign unless one of the parties decides to make it so. Controlling the campaign agenda is something that all parties strive for, and no one is going to open a can of worms (particularly if it happens to also be highly controversial) they don't feel comfortable or on solid ground dealing with during a campaign, lest it come back and bite them in terms of votes.

Aren't they all professional snake oil salesmen?

Re: Jack Layton...Professional snake oil salesman…
The voters play their part in the snake oil business though. People like Layton come out with promises totalling $70 billion (Earlier I said $50 billion but apparently it's $70 billion . . . oh well, what's another $20 billion or so?) and his popularity soars.
Where is the money coming to pay for these promises?? Someone else somewhere will pay for it all. That's all people need to know and the snake oil salesman has conned some more people.

Re: Jack Layton...Professional snake oil salesman…
How about the conservative snake oil? Or the liberal snake oil? Really these are the only 2 parties in the history of Canada that ever got to actually put in place their agenda's? Look at the freakin deficit - what kinda snake oil was sold to aquire that? where is the great fiscal progress that the conservatives can brag about? Maybe they should get their own poop in a group before they start trying to discredit a party that is UNTRIED and therefore has ZERO track record and only speculation that can be used against them.
i love how the 2 BIGGEST most dominant parties in Canada have both turned their sights on the underdog And they are still losing ground
at least Laytons snake oil has a different flavor than the crap that has been rammed down our throats since the inception of canadian gov't
I love how the big "burn" is laytons camera op ..... i guess its just better if he finds his own U-tube viral sensation that has ZERO to do with politics or the campaign and try and hop on the coattails of the viral flavor of the moment like Harper did in Winnipeg
so sh*tharper SAID is bad put things layton is perceived to have done is good .....?????

Well, one thing fer sure, if the snake oil salesman manages to come to power in Canada, the "youth" may get pampered for a while, ...but it is going to cost them their inheritance so they will pay big time for it at some point anyway.

Re: Jack Layton...Professional snake oil salesman…
IF Jack Layton becomes Leader of the Opposition, he's entitled to all the same perks as any other Leader the Opposition has been entitled to. Why should he not be? Are those of you trying to make some sort of political hay out of this seriously implying he should allow Stornoway to sit empty while he lives somewhere else just to prove a point?
If attacking him for accepting the same perks previous Leaders of the Opposition have received is the best you can come up with as a means of trying to get people to change their vote, then that's pretty sad.
Disagreeing with NDP policies is fine, but the kind of stuff being posted in this thread just makes the posters look desperate to prop up the Tory parties dwindling fortunes (and I'm a person whose always voted Tory in the past). Cut it out guys, because your hurting more than helping Harper's chances of success. Don't you get it? People are TIRED of this sort of character assassination and mud slinging, it's part of why Jack's rising in the polls. All you're doing is reinforcing peoples decision that it's time for a change from the same old, same old. In other words, your mud slinging efforts are counter productive, and beneath you.
