Why does government have to be responsible for all societies ills? It's not their job to cover people's *bleep*. If you support those causes, you pay for it. I'd rather support the things that are important to me instead of all these bleeding heart things that somebody wants to yelp about and ding my paycheque for.

:dyinglaughing:

I'll believe that you actually mean this when I don't see you complaining about your finances online, because it sure sounds as if you're asking for someone to pay your way for you with all your "woe-is-me-how-will-I-come-up-with-the-money-to-pay-for-the-latest-calamity-to-hit-me" crap. You may not be asking for a government handout, but you sure seem to begging for charity. Why not learn to be responsible for your own finances? Stop smoking and you might be to pay the entire fine when a cop tickets you. Paying such a fine is your responsibility, and I can't believe you pleaded with the judge to show you his bleeding heart...

Admittedly, I am being harsh, but you need to realize how ridiculous your accusations about those who appreciate government programs for the needy sound in light of many of your posts on the Castanet forums.

If you know how to read, you would have seen that I did not plead with the judge - but I still stand behind my comments. Yes, my finances are tight - but I do pay my own way and don't ask for welfare or any other things I am not entitled to after working my *bleep* off for over 50 years. And since you don't know my personal history, I do not think you are in a position to judge or even comment on my lifestyle or my financial picture.

When I had kids, I paid for them and all costs associated with them. They played on sports teams and I paid for that, too. I didn't expect society and the public purse to pick up any of my child-rearing costs - I produced those kids and I was responsible for all costs associated with them. Not so with today's parents. I paid my taxes and contributed to the public school system - but I didn't expect or demand free lunches or field trips or any of these flipping expensive fluffies that parents today think their little darlings should get from somebody's else's paycheque. And I don't like paying for those things for them. I don't mind paying to educate kids but half of what they get in school is not what I call an education - unless it is an education in how to milk the public purse even more with their friggin' socialistic preachings.

Your concept of "the needy" and mine are more than likely poles apart and our ways of dealing with them are probably poles apart, too. I sure wouldn't be giving free anything to parents or adults who were more concerned about the latest fashions, dining and dancing and keeping up with the Joneses when they earn over $40,000 a year and live every waking moment on their credit cards and kiting at the bank.

We are in this mess because we keep feeding public money to these wastes of skin and the more we give them, the more they feel they are entitled to.

I also don't support giving public money to charities and to religious organizations and feel that if a person wants to support them they can bloody well do it from their own pocket instead of from mine. If I want to support abortions, I can do it from my own pocket - not the public trough. It is not the job of government to moralize and get involved in "causes".

I also don't like the bullying that happens these days in politics - and ALL the parties are guilty of that. It would be refreshing to have a party say what they will do for Canadians and how they will make Canada a better country for us and how they will fund it rather than just have them all slamming each other over and over and over again and telling us absolutely nothing about why we should vote for them.

And finally, I have had it up to here and higher about all this global warming/cooling/climate change/environment crap.

And I am NOT being harsh - I am a realist and all this social funding costs a ton of money that Canada just does NOT have. I do not believe in leaving our kids and grandkids to pay for the flipperties and foolish "I deserve all this free stuff" that people today seem to feel they are entitled to. This may not be YOU personally, but it sure is a helluva lot of people who just don't have any concept of WHO THE F IS GOING TO PAY FOR ALL THIS? I'll tell you who - every working person will see higher and higher taxes and less and less to keep in their own pockets to pay for their own needs - not wants - NEEDS. It's way past time to open our eyes and look at government differently - and not expect government to keep covering the world's tushes.

Didn't you post a year or so ago when you were laid off you had applied for welfare and weren't approved as you didn't qualify? Too many assets or some such thing.

So did I but I didn't begrudge someone else receiving help if they needed it. Hell, I paid for school trips for my kids plus a few others because I knew their family couldn't afford it. So what if it cost me $20 every 3-4 months. Even booked time of work with no loss of pay to accompany the kids on the trips. The kids enjoyed themselves and weren't made fun of because they couldn't afford the $2 or $3 for the trip. No, the families weren't living high on the hog nor were they making as much as I was but they had bills to pay, same as me. If my sons friends wanted to play soccer or baseball and couldn't afford equipment, I had no qualms about giving them the stuff my kids had outgrown from the year before, or in special cases, taking them to the store and outfitting them. Didn't break the bank buying them a pair of soccer or baseball shoes and a glove - uniforms were provided by the league. Again, no need for them to be made fun of or bullied because they couldn't afford it.

Unfortunately $40K per annum doesn't go far these days with housing costs, food, clothing, fuel, insurance and medical/dental care taking up most of their take home pay. Someone earning that much money wouldn't qualify for social assistance so giving them tax credits for fitness or sports isn't a big deal.

We are in this mess because we keep feeding public money to these wastes of skin and the more we give them, the more they feel they are entitled to. No one is a waste of skin and it's sad you think that way.

I also don't support giving public money to charities and to religious organizations and feel that if a person wants to support them they can bloody well do it from their own pocket instead of from mine. If I want to support abortions, I can do it from my own pocket - not the public trough. It is not the job of government to moralize and get involved in "causes". I have certain charities I support - don't do the religious ones, but I also don't mind if they receive funds from the government (basically it's pennies per Canadian citizen so what's the problem?), corporations, small business owners or other individuals. It's a sad state of affairs when people believe no one is worthy of receiving help if they need it.

Think everybody feels that way but hell will freeze over before it happens.

And finally, I have had it up to here and higher about all this global warming/cooling/climate change/environment crap. There are changes but I'm not convinced it's as bad as some make out.

And I am NOT being harsh - I am a realist and all this social funding costs a ton of money that Canada just does NOT have. I do not believe in leaving our kids and grandkids to pay for the flipperties and foolish "I deserve all this free stuff" that people today seem to feel they are entitled to. It's way past time to open our eyes and look at government differently - and not expect government to keep covering the world's tushes. So you'd rather our government not help when a natural disaster occurs in some other part of the world?

Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs
(A TRUE Political Fable)

The seven dwarfs always left to go work in the mine early each morning.
As always, Snow White stayed home doing her domestic chores.

As lunchtime approached she would prepare their lunch and carry it to the mine.

One day as she arrived at the mine with the lunch she saw that there had been a terrible cave-in. Tearfully, and fearing the worst, Snow White began calling out, hoping against hope that the dwarfs had somehow survived.

'Hello!...Hello!' she shouted. 'Can anyone hear me? Hello!'

For a long while, there was no answer.
Losing hope, Snow White again shouted,
'Hello! Is anyone down there?'

Just as she was about to give up all hope,
She heard a faint voice from deep within the mine, singing . . ....'Vote for Michael Ignatieff
Vote for Michael Ignatieff !
Snow White fell to her knees, crossed herself and prayed,
'Oh, thank you God! At least Dopey is still alive!'
Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have of changing others.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything that comes their way.

I didn't really want to bring this up, but I feel that the Conservatives' de-funding of Sisters in Spirit is yet another example of the racist undertones of the ultra-right wing elements within the party.

My partner did some research on this because we read it on "*bleep* harper did" and were a bit skeptical. Here's what he came up with:

NWAC, the Native Womens Association of Canada applied for a $5 Million grant to conduct a 5 year research project called Sisters in Spirt, which ran from 2005-2010. All of that funding was paid. They then applied for an additional grant to do a Sisters in Spirit 2, which was not approved for funding. The government instead approved $10 million in funding through the Deparment of Justice in the 2010 budget for helping prevent violence against Aboriginal Women. The NWAC initially praised the the funding but then voiced some concerns when it learned the money would not be going to their Sisters in Spirt 2 project and that 4 of the 10 million would be used to create a national missing persons database that would be for all races and genders and that the database would not specifically record the race of the missing individual.

Sorry to derail the humor, I'm just really sick of being told that conservatives hate women.

LOL, good finds. Sometimes I think the real truth is that some women hate other women. Particularly the highly successful kind who do not get hung up on "feminism" and all that crap, .....of which we have many full of education, talent, and self confidence, both in government, the media, and in business.

If they have won 2 seats, then only one of them can ride in my vehicle with me (provided I get to drive, of course).
