Real things Harper has said

As much as the only trick left in the opposition's bag of tricks appears to keep "hammering on Harper" over petty things, the polls tell a story that suggests not only is it not working as intended, but that it is working in Harpers favour. Now, if I interprete the following Compas report correctly, it is the first poll I have seen that not only projects a Harper majority government, but a LARGE or BIG Harper majority government. Seems to be coming largely at the cost of the Liberals declining, although some Bloc and Green declines contribute too - I suspect in favour of the NDP.

The rub seems to be that Ontario is turning its back on the Liberals under Ignatieff and producing a huge swing to the Conservatives as a result (which should be interesting considering the provincial Liberals in Ontario are in trouble too and the province likely to go Conservative on the provincial government front also), and there is an old belief that as goes Southern Ontario, so is likely to go the nation with Quebec as the main wild card - now not a guestimate of a Conservative minority, but rather how big the majority will be.

Other than trying to dig up more dirt and continue on the overly agressive and boring path that hasn't worked so far (so probably will not work any better going forward), there is little Iggy can come up with in his empty arsenal of tricks and script that is new enough to turn his fortunes. Many are now suggesting we watch to see what his campaign does in the next two weeks. If he shifts gears and moves into a mode where he is falling back to his Toronto area base and trying to protect as many existing Liberal seats as he can - then the assumption seems to be that he will have acknowledged the game is lost and he will go the way of Dion, except this time facing a Harper Tory Majority rather than a minority.

There sure is a lot of 'petty' things to 'hammer' Harper with though. I mean, wow, this kind has messed up A LOT! And somehow he's going to get in again!? Harper himself must think Canadians are stupid - I sure do.

Whats funny about this thread is every single Prime Minister has said something stupid or promised something then lied about it. To single one guy out is kinda lame. I know Iggy said some stupid s@#t and he wants to be Prime Minister. Should have a thread that shows all their stupid crap.

Hey Al.. Have you been speech writing for Harper or did you just pass on the stuff from the BC Liberal leadership campaign? Or have his speechwriters been reading your posts here again LOL? At least they left out reference to the Socialist Hordes thingy. Obviously even Harper doesn't realize that BC's "lost decade" was primarily the result of Paul Martin's Federal Liberals slash and burn under Chretien. Although I suspect that if the NDP hadn't risen to eclipse the Liberals as enemy #1 in this election, he probably would have got it right LOL.

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — Conservative leader Stephen Harper wrapped up his election campaign Sunday night with a firm warning for British Columbians: They must reject Jack Layton's NDP to avoid a repeat of the "lost decade" that struck their province when New Democrats held power.


Harper delivered the message at the last rally of the five-week campaign. He focused his attacks on the NDP and urged "traditional Liberals" to support him as a way of ensuring Layton doesn't become prime minister.


"You know from bitter experience how devastating it can be for workers and families when an inexperienced NDP government suddenly finds itself in office," he said to his B.C. audience of more than 1,000 supporters.


"Folksy talk and grandiose promises from an untested party on the campaign trail soon to be replaced by the sobering reality of crushing taxes, out of control deficit and massive job losses."


"B.C. experienced a lost decade in the 1990s," said Harper, in reference to the years when the NDP ran the government in the province.


"People and businesses leaving the province in droves. No jobs for young people. Taxes through the roof, becoming a have-not province. British Columbia has had that experience. British Columbians can help make sure that that never happens to our great country."

Bottom line Nabs is that when your economic performance against other Provincial jurisdictions competing in the same economic climate go from first to worst (as it did under your friends in the BC NDP in the 1990’s ) AND B.C. go’s from being a have to a have not Province AND B.C.’s credit rating gets’ decimated (again as it did under the BC N.D.P) and major employers don’t leave Canada but just B.C. to escape the BC NDP that all says something. Harper is clearly just reminding voters that Jack Layton and Adrian Dix are all one and the same.

Naturally he is hoping to capitalize on the anti-NDP vote and possible some more centrist Liberals. I don’t know that the strategy will actually work mind you. Personally I see another Conservative Minority with an NDP opposition that unlike the Federal Liberals, will NOT prop up the Harper Government regardless of what they do. To me, Canada is a country headed for some trouble….
