Questions about heart health and chiropractor
I'm just wondering if anyone can share their knowledge of/experience with
1) heart palpitations/arrythmia
2) complications from having one leg shorter than the other
I have been experiencing heart palpitations over the last year, but about the last 6 months or so I have been experiencing severe "thunking" (for lack of a better word) of my heart when I lay on my left side or even sit shifted to the left. When the thunking happens, I see stars and am light-headed for a few seconds. I know my systolic blood pressure is high and I have several risk factors for heart disease. I also have low iron and am on birth control.
I also have one leg shorter than the other which has put my whole body out of alignment causing back pain, hip pain, and now my ankle is turning and causing severe pain. Visits to the chiropractor seem ineffective and costly.
I am seeing the doc tomorrow for blood testing, but want to have more info before I go.
Any feedback is appreciated.

Hi,
Well, I'm still kicking
No word yet on the heart problems, although I have undergone 24-hour ecg and blood testing for various things. I know my blood pressure is high (150/100) Now I'm just waiting for some test results, which takes a long time to get in my rural neck of the woods. Thanks for asking!!

Any news?
I have some questions as well about stuff. Every once in awhile and I know it's when I'm a bit stressed, I get these wierd they aren't really a pain just kind of a stab on one side or the other and then feel just generally crappy along with it. Also, sometimes just as I'm falling asleep, I'll get like a jolt almost, it's too wierd to try to descirbe.
I am on blood pressure medication and did have tests done 2 years ago and everything was fine, although I thought that treadmill was gonna kill me if nothing else..........anyone know what it might be....

Heart symptoms can be markedly different in women. They commonly don't experience the typical left arm/crushing chest type of thing. It can present as jaw or back pain.
What type of tests did you have done? Electrocardiogram, Echocardiogram, Blood test (cardiac enzyme), holter monitor (24hr ecg).
There are all sorts of heart conditions, some are serious, some more benign. It is definitely not something you want to ignore. Do you find it is more common to feel something weird when sleeping on one side more than the other?

No nothing abnormal about what side I sleep on, just it is hard to explain. Not a pain but a wierd thing, almost like it's in mt boobs.
Hmmm. Sounds like they are keeping an eye out for things.
I have heard about breast pain related to caffeine ingestion.

I can relate to the stress pains, Max Mom. Having done the holter monitor now, my stress test is still to be scheduled after a month since my last doctor visit telling me I need to have one. The medical system up north is so sluggish it is frustrating.

Hey Browneyed Girl, I also have one leg shorter and have been experiencing low back pain, hip pain, etc. I see an awesome Chiro on Enterprise. Through the x-rays that he took and analyzed he showed me that I have an 11mm difference (R leg shorter). So, along with a regular treatment plan he brought in a heel lift which I wear in my right shoe and it has made a huge difference for me. Unfortunately I don't wear it as much in the summer because of wearing thongs, so I tend to hurt more then but I feel great now!! I have been feeling so good I haven't been for a while but he's great (Dr. Thiel). Hope this helps.
Did your Chiro take x-rays to determine what is causing the difference in leg lengths?

Hey Annie,
Thanks for your reply. I found the chiropractor wasn't doing more than breaking my bank account at $90/week, but maybe I should have stuck with it longer. I think my misalignment was due to pregnancy, but who knows. At my GP's suggestion, I'm currently "gelling" it which helps a little, but orthotics would be good if I can ever affored them.
I finally got my appointment scheduled Feb 1st to do the treadmill stress test. What fun to spend my 36th birthday testing for a blockage LOL. I hope they can give me some more info (quickly) because the thumping and dizziness spells are occurring a lot more these days. It's scary sometimes, especially when it happens at night in bed and I wonder if I will wake up in the morning to see my daughter's face.

Hey Browneyed Girl,
Funny, apparently I always had my leg length discrepancy but never did it bother me until I carried my second child, who ended up being 10 days late and at 9lbs 10.5oz. ouch! So I've always said it was because of that pregnancy also.
Just to let you know, the shoe lift that I have isn't really an orthotic, more just a small piece of heel-shaped rubber that I slip into my shoe so it raises me up on my short side. It only costs about $8 so very affordable. You may even be able to go into a specialty shoe store that carries orthotics, etc. and they may have heel lifts that you can just buy without going through a Chiropractor. Although my leg length is 11mm shorter, I believe my heel lifts are about 7mm. So, if you're unsure about your difference, you may even just want to try something around 5mm.
Anyways, give it some thought...it might just help a bit since it sounds like we're in very similar situation.
Keep us posted on that heart problem.....glad you're getting it looked at as that's not something to take lightly. Best of luck!

Thanks so much for the info, Annie. I will definately check into the lifts. Sounds a lot more affordable!!!
