(2) If the driver of a motor vehicle is driving at so slow a speed as to impede or block the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, a peace officer may require the driver to increase his or her speed, or to remove the motor vehicle from the roadway to the nearest suitable place and to refrain from causing or allowing the motor vehicle to move from that place until directed to do so by a peace officer.

So if they have the same duties as a vehicle, this then means they are capable of traveling on a highway at a minimum speed of 60 KM an hour, have four way flashers for areas they can't maintain the minimum speed, and always use their proper hand signals for turning and stopping and have a registered licence and proper insurance while doing so the same standard in which drivers require.?cv23 wrote:
LOL, yet another totally uninformed post obviously made out of ignorance (of the actual laws)

Perhaps best that those debating the issue of bicycles on a (provincial) highway clarify in their minds the difference between the definition of a motorvehicle and definition of a vehicle regarding the "duties of a bicycle rider".
Section 1 - Definition Section
"vehicle" means a device in, on or by which a person or thing is or may be transported or drawn on a highway, but does not include a device designed to be moved by human power, a device used exclusively on stationary rails or tracks, mobile equipment or a motor assisted cycle;
"motor vehicle" means a vehicle, not run on rails, that is designed to be self propelled or propelled by electric power obtained from overhead trolley wires, but does not include mobile equipment or a motor assisted cycle;
Vehicle and Motor Vehicle mean very different things.

We can talk about MVA and rules of the road till the cows come home (cows do come home don't they?) When you read Twobits original post the real issue is cyclists not using common sense when dealing with vehicle traffic. Yes, I know we can't and shouldn't generalize and say all cyclists have this attitude of entitlement - but the group that does are the ones who give cyclists both pro and weekend warriors a bad name. I'm sure some of those cyclists who are passionate about the sport will come on here screaming how dare you, however, you know full well there are those individuals who are decked out in yup their colorful spandex gear, expensive sunglasses and helmets and riding their $2,000+ bikes who are simply put real *bleep* when it comes to rules of the road. I do believe most individuals who drive vehicles have enough common sense and maturity to share the road, however, I also understand when these same said individuals lose it on the cyclists it is for good reason/s. Just this past week as I was thinking I should be less judgemental of cyclists and try and share the road I'm given the opportunity to lose it. While driving the back road past the cemetery around the corner comes two cyclists decked out in their colors and guess where they were riding? One in the right lane - the other in the left lane - the lane I'm travelling in. Were they prepared to move? Nope! I had to basically almost come to a stop as these two idiots who were more concerned about talking and laughing rode by me as I yelled "stay in your lane" to which I got the "F-off". Before you cyclists who are so passionate about riding and feel hard done by start yelling - drive a vehicle and watch for these idiots - they're probably your friends - let them know that what they are doing is simply wrong and they are being extremely ignorant. I really don't care about the Motor Vehicle Act - if I come across this cyclist ignorance one more time I will be dealing with my own ACT-ions.

Stupidity regarding drivers is not limited to motor vehicles. Fortunately whether they drive or ride they are limited to a minority group.

Watch the improper turns at any intersection and you'll recognize it's a majority.

Actually if you look back to page 6 you will see the list of requirement the MVA, not you, dictates for cyclists.

We can talk about MVA and rules of the road till the cows come home (cows do come home don't they?) When you read the original post the real issue is truckers not using common sense when dealing with other vehicle traffic. Yes, I know we can't and shouldn't generalize and say all truckers have this attitude of entitlement - but the group that does are the ones who give truckers both pro and weekend warriors a bad name. I'm sure some of those truckers who are passionate about driving will come on here screaming how dare you, however, you know full well there are those individuals who are decked out in yup their John Deere hats, greasy jeans and chewing tobacco and driving their $50k trucks who are simply put real *bleep* when it comes to rules of the road. I do believe most individuals who drive vehicles have enough common sense and maturity to share the road, however, I also understand when these same said individuals lose it on the truckers it is for good reason/s. How does it sound now? One arrogant group thinking they are better than everyone else on the road?

Maybe someone should invent something like those " deer whistles" that you put on your front bumper but instead it's only heard by spandex riding cyclists.

Sometimes CV it's the simple things that confuse isn't it? Let me try and put this another way - 1 ton SUV moving at 60k - 200lb bike and rider moving at say 30k - common sense - let me repeat that word - common sense would say 200lb bike and rider you may want to not ride on the left side of the road with a 1 ton vehicle coming at you. Now sometimes we don't always see common sense being used do we CV? End result - one badly injured if not dead cyclist. One driver of vehicle having to live with these memories because of someone else's stupidity. I think what is being said on this thread about vehicles and cyclists is pretty easy to comprehend - some just choose not to try!

To Southy...
If two vehicles of meet nose to nose and both are going 60 KPH the closing speed is 120 KPH but the IMPACT speed is only 60 KPH.
If a bicycle is going 20 KPH and your truck 60 KPH the closing speed would be 80 KPH; what would the impact speed be ??
If you really want to get complicated, what would the impact force be for the two machines ?
That is why traffic analysts are so important at serious accidents, like the one you envision with the bicycle.

If you are inferring that it isn't a wise idea, or legal, to ride, operate a vehicle, or even walk, in the opposing lane of traffic then that is indeed common sense which certain members of any/every group can be accused of lacking at times.
But if by using your size/weight/speed/injury comparison that you believe the bigger the vehicle you're operating the more you are entitled to use of the roadway, and possibly disobey the laws, simply because your vehicle is larger and will inflict extensive injuries the other smaller vehicle operator which you are legally bound to SHARE the road with then you have not used common sense but sadly a misguided sense of self entitlement?

Explain please it not being common sense or legal to walk opposing traffic.
