Pretty much the same at Apex.bigtimeoperations wrote: Jan 28th, 2026, 9:03 pm This winter is uncharted territory. What in the H-E-Double hockey sticks is going on? Extremely concerning
Conditions at Big White are abysmal right now. Packed ice, no significant new snow for weeks. People around here have this weird fantasy where the valley will get no snow but the ski hills will get unlimited champagne powder. Sorry that is not possible. The ski hills cannot get good snow without the valley getting at least some as well.
Got one day in before Christmas and the cover was better than any time all last year. Then- zip for snow too today.
Just maybe the front hitting the coast might spare an inch or two of moisture on the interior mountains.
The local roads have been sprayed a couple of times with the expectation snow will reach the valley floor...

I did 55 years of loving winter and snow..........NEVER want to see snow in Kelowna again...............looking at it 10 miles away in the mountains is fine. What Ski Resorts get I could care less about them or their bottom line

Re: Nice weather
Well after 55 years you should know that snow is supposed to be part of our climate. Move to Hawaii if you don’t like it. Forget the ski hills, the mountains in general need lots of snow to stave off drought and a bad fire season. Mountains cannot get lots of snow without the valley getting some as well.lesliepaul wrote: Jan 28th, 2026, 11:52 pm I did 55 years of loving winter and snow..........NEVER want to see snow in Kelowna again...............looking at it 10 miles away in the mountains is fine. Re: Nice weather
Absolutely nothing to do with Ski Resorts and their bottom line, other than the fact that we need the snowpack on the mountains, which in turn means the ski hills benefit as well.lesliepaul wrote: Jan 28th, 2026, 11:52 pm I did 55 years of loving winter and snow..........NEVER want to see snow in Kelowna again...............looking at it 10 miles away in the mountains is fine. We need the moisture to stave off more drought, and help prevent nasty fire seasons.
If you want snow gone you're living in the wrong place, try Mexico.
I get the majority of my exercise coming here and shaking my head in disbelief!

Yea, same. If I didn't need to drive to the coast, I could be leaving my summers on the car.
The mountains all over the province definitely need a ton of snow to replenish reservoirs for drinking and electrical production.

Well it's already February, and the 10 day forecast doesn't really hint towards any snow....might actually be a snow-free winter in Kelowna

Re: Nice weather
Looks like a great day to take the canoe out for a leisurely paddle about.
Gentle breeze from the NE of 50 to 70, starting to sprinkle a bit too.
