Any reports of a fire?

Seeing on FB that someone reported a campfire in the area earlier this morning and now

it's apparently a half hectare?

As of yet, according to FB posts from a person in the area, no ground crews are at the scene and no site of air crews either.

Sorry Rwede been outside....it was posted originally on the Joe Rich Residents FB page.

It's a closed page for local folks.

I see Ferri has posted a story on it.

Got back down from the lake a couple of hours ago.

Good news - as of 4pm today it looks like just hot spots left. 3 forestry firefighter folks up there with a pump and fire hoses bringing water up from the lake.

Still the odd flare up in the middle, but they've got the edges of the fire surrounded with water lines and wetted down. They told me that they're going to keep at it with the water until sundown and will be back tomorrow. I suspect by 7:30 or so when they quit for the day it'll be all but out.

Fire appears to have started along a trail behind the cabins. I really doubt it was a campfire, would have been a really odd spot for a campfire. My best guess - a cigarette or perhaps a spark from a motorbike/ATV. Forestry guys said they've seen no evidence of how it started and currently share my guess as to point of origin and likely source of ignition.

Big thanks to firefighters and Oyama Lake Fishing Resort for lending them the boats to get them and their equip across to fight the fire!
