Aggressive TELUS fibre sales
Back on the 4th of October, a door-to-door Telus rep. explained a fibre deal to me, and I told him I did not want an account, but a quote would be nice. He mislead me in to giving my information in what I thought would be an exchange for a quote but, nope, I shouldn't had been that dumb. He signed me up for an install.
The next day (the 5th) after getting Telus e-mails telling me about my new account, I called a Telus rep to ensure my so called account is cancelled, and she told me it was.
Today, after a week, a contractor installed a fibre box on my home without permission, and ran a fibre line to it. I called them again today to make sure it was cancelled, and they tell me it is! It's been so frustrating dealing with them. What should I do? Now I have an ugly box mounted on my home which I never wanted.
Advice? (other than not be too trusting? lol)

The box houses the connection. It doesn't have to be used. In fact lots of houses are wired but not connected.
If you ever do switch to telus, your house is already pre-wired.
Also, they don't need your permission to install anything, utility companies have a right of passage onto your property to install and service their equipment .

Tell them to come and remove it and to put any holes or alterations back how they found it. Replace siding, interior whatever.
I wouldn't be surprised if you get an install bill anyway.

That is what Telus also says, they want to make sure that the home can go fibre if so desired. They never had my permission though. It really irked me. I haven't seen inside the box, I would think it is long screws in to the wall structure and would leave holes if removed. I am not going to pay for any install when none of it had my permission. BBB?

If you really don't want the box, it's only a data cable and can't shock you, disconnect it and toss it in the trash, bury the cable.Jlabute wrote: Oct 12th, 2022, 6:43 pm Now I have an ugly box mounted on my home which I never wanted.

I'd just leave it in case you need to switch to Telus in the future...
As for door salesmen, they make a commission on what they sell. In the future, if you don't want what they are selling (insurance, internet, feeding kids in Rwanda, etc) don't give your information.
I always ask and learned thru asking, these door salesmen don't work for the company and can't obtain a quote, they have the predefined deals from the parent company and that's it.

It's sometimes nice to have options if it didn't cost you anything.Jlabute wrote: Oct 12th, 2022, 6:43 pm Back on the 4th of October, a door-to-door Telus rep. explained a fibre deal to me, and I told him I did not want an account, but a quote would be nice. In our case the optik installer wasn't too keen on his options, as in he would have to run wire to the house.
Unbeknownst to us he came up with another idea, he found the pipe in the ground containing the Shaw cable, then proceeded to use the Shaw cable to pull his optik line through underground.
I'm guessing if we ever desired to go back to Shaw, their people would simply return the favor.
I get the majority of my exercise coming here and shaking my head in disbelief!

They won't charge you for install. Contact BBB. This has been a covert infringement on your property

BBB is less than useless and I would be surprised if they even have enough data banks to hold all the complaints against the Telecoms.

Ok, ok. I admit it’s been more than 3 decades I called upon BBB. Come to think back on it, naught happened.Catsumi wrote: Oct 12th, 2022, 6:56 pmAbsolutely.Jlabute wrote: Oct 12th, 2022, 6:54 pm That is what Telus also says, they want to make sure that the home can go fibre if so desired. So then why, why, do businesses still belong to BBB and pay fees to do so?

Same reason some businesses still advertise in Yellow Pages - their owners are gazillion years old.Catsumi wrote: Oct 12th, 2022, 7:10 pm So then why, why, do businesses still belong to BBB and pay fees to do so?

With any luck at all, you’ll see sunset years and you be wrangling with your outdated cellphone whilst the young puppies fall over laughing at you.
